Stock roof rack almost worthless

Newer 5th gens got rid of the whip antenna. But still stuck with the XM. I used the XM some when it was free, but have no intention of paying for it when pandora is both free and better. With entune it's seamless for me.

I suspect each XM channel is powered by an iPod Shuffle, and each satellite is just a bunch of iPod Shuffles strapped together with some solar panels and a transmitter. That's why they can't change the playlist very often- it's expensive to send more stuff into orbit, and all the uplink bandwidth is already used to keep the ad content up to date. XM Headquarters:

I'd be careful with all those shuffles. Just one or two more and the Technological Singularity will be produced and they will be come self aware. You know what that means don't you?

Now about the OP's question, it's a good one and worth an answer. Is the notch around the fin antennae required because of reception interference or just to physically, spacially miss it?

We're forced to live with this fin antennae on the roof for something 95% of us will never use or pay for. So we have to notch the best roof racks to fit it.

I say a cut-off saw and some bondo are the solution. :focus:

I imagine someone with a 3D printer could come up with a simple low profile replacement cap that could bolt on in place of the shark fin and eliminate the problem. Anyone up for the challenge?

I thought the fin came with the differential breather mod for deep water crossings.. My bad!

It only works when it rolls over onto the top, how else do you think the fin is going to work?

Yea, but the hard part is taking off the original shark fin. I imagine it's anchored on and the screws are underneath the headliner. Anyone ever remove one?

Pretty sure it's not just an XM antenna, I think it's the GPS antenna also if you have that option. And I think it's badass, love the movie Jaws
