Stock suspension equivalent?

Got the rears changed out today. Springs look some height. Shocks were changed at some point because they were not OEM. They were "sensatrac" which look to be a monroe shock. I can't read the part number because it's rusted off. I'll check later to see if the other side is still there.

Initial results- Passenger side stayed the same. 35 1/4" ground to bottom of fender.

Driver side raised 3/4". 34 3/4" to 35 1/2"

I am wondering if they changed the springs when they changed the shocks. One prior owner. The rear swar bar bushings looked relatively new as well. The fronts looked pretty beat from memory so I have a feeling just the rear was worked on. I will find out tomorrow if I have a chance to tackle the front.

My truck got a little love last night too. I should had done this as soon as I took it home. What a difference.

Finished up the fronts this week. Tried the no spring compressor attempt and I could not get my ball joints off so I could not get enough flex of the LCA. Oh well, I tried.

Previous owner put cheap monroes up front like he did the rear. Driver side was completely blown, passenger side was in bad shape.

I notice the springs were on the wrong side as well. blue/yellow supposed to be right side and they were installed on the left side.

Got it all changed out after much swearing and fighting.

All new oem suspension lifts every corner to 35 1/4" to bottom of fender to ground. I will see if they settle any after a couple weeks. It picked up less than I thought, only 1/2" all around. Springs looked in good shape which makes me wonder if they were changed with the shocks. I probably could had made due with leaving them and just getting shocks.

Notice much of a difference in ride dynamics?

It is not nearly as bouncy as it was. I am actually surprised it wasn't worse after seeing how the shocks didn't rebound at all.

The stock suspension is a bit on the soft side for an SUV. I am also comparing to my Golf R which is very stiff and my Tundra which is a truck. I am not complaining as it is very comfortable now.

It's still a bit sloppier (body roll) than I would anticipated considering the new suspension and sway bushings. It is a tall and narrow vehicle though so I am probably expecting too much. I have some 17" snow tires to swap out. I imagine the 9 year old 16" all seasons are partly to blame for that.

As an aside, my passenger side caliper was froze (pulled left hard on braking and poor overall braking performance). When I had the front wheels off I was able to get my PB Blaster inside each piston boot. Let it sit for a couple of days. It snowed big time yesterday so I was able to check out the ABS for the first time since purchasing. My brakes seem back to normal now. Seems to brake much better than straight. I did the same thing when I had my jeep and one side froze up after a lengthy offroad trip. Likely from driving in rivers and water getting to pistons.

I had 9 year old All Seasons from previous owner. They were pretty worn, although they still had 6/32 tread. Switched over to some snow tires I picked up. They are 17s. These really make a difference on the sway and handling picked up quite a bit with them. I am a happy camper now. I will be going to 17s on a mild AT come spring time.

Just checked the measurements again. Sitting at 35.25 in the rear, 35 FL and 35.5 FR:twitch:

Not sure why the fronts are so funky all of a sudden. Wheels were turned slightly, but I don't see that throwing measurements off much.

Had a 3 hour road trip this weekend. Kids in the back, and rear loaded with luggage and food. I didn't measure but it was squatting pretty bad judging by my FOV from the rear-view mirror. Plus I could see my headlights pointed right at the mirrors of the people driving in front of me :D It's only natural since it sits pretty level unloaded.

May look into spacers for the rear to give me a little lift. Otherwise do they make airbags? That would make the most sense since I rarely drive loaded and don't see the point in driving with a rake all the time.

Aside from the slight sag loaded, the car handle great. The new suspension and bushings really made the ride enjoyable. My wheels needs to be balance because I get a slight vibration at 72mph though. Average just over 18 mpg driving to the GFs house during rush hour then cruising for 3 hours around 70. Currently sitting @ almost 162K miles
