Yeah its very odd. I'm assuming they needed a tire I guess. These 4Runners are extremely popular here. In fact there are 2 others in my same lot. I just put new tires on last weekend too. I'm thinking about starting at the tire store

Oh man.
Yeah, get wheel locks. Someone was watching your truck. Probably someone in your apartment complex. Check others 4runners around your area (specially the spare wheel).

yeaah for sure...if there's other 4runners where you park and you had just gotten new tires. that would be an eyebrow raiser for me

That stinks.

I have to ask if they left the jack underneath. The reason being is that my buddy a couple of years ago got two tires stolen off his Jeep and the idiots left the jack underneath the pumpkin. The jack was new and their was only one place in town that sold it. A quick look of the tape from the store cameras caught two guys that both had done time for car jacking before. Both were tried, found guilty, and are now doing a dime a piece in the clink.

Wheel locks are the way to go.

They did leave the jack. It must have broke in the process because it wont pump up. Its also full of dog hair. If you look at the picture they jammed a piece of wood between the frame and body like they were going to block it. I think they were planning on taking them all and something happened.

Yeah, it was odd to steal 1 wheel. Now I can see why you are lucky not to lose the other 3.

Is there a way for you to find a wheel? I will pass through AZ in late December and might be able to bring you an OEM 3 spoke alloy wheel.

Where was your 4R parked in phx when your tire got stolen? I will keep a lookout for a 5 star rim for u.

I'm in the Scottsdale area by old town. It will have a brand new Bridgstone Dueler AT Revo 2 on it, black letters out. I went to the tire store and the manager said he would give me a deal on a new tire and a contact to help me for a new rim from the local salvage yards.
Im also going to leave a letter on everyone's car in the parking lot at the condo so they are aware and hope someone has something. If anything it will keep people looking for suspicious behavior.

Hi,

I almost bought wheel locks but most here, who chimed in, said no good brands/too much of a hassle/they break etc…

Wheels get ripped a lot! I know my tires cost $200 each, no clue on rims but suspect $100+…

Any suggestions on wheel lock?

Thanks,

UTEP

Nothing is ever truly theft proof, the best you can do is invest in something to slow a thief down. If you can slow them down enough they may pick on an easier target.

With regards to wheel locks I would caution against the kind that simply take some sort of key that fits in them such as the ones your typical auto parts store sells. They are all but useless. I once bought a used car that had them but the owner lost the key. Took it down to my local garage they jammed a socket over it and had all 4 off in less than 3 minutes.

I have these - Gorilla Automotive Products - Lug Nuts, Wheel Locks, Auto Security, Wheel Accessories

IMHO the design makes it far less likely the thief is going to show up with the tools necessary to defeat these locks.

If you want to go real crazy you could switch the rest of the lugs out for these - Gorilla Automotive Products - Lug Nuts, Wheel Locks, Auto Security, Wheel Accessories

Again, no system is theft proof, but the more difficult you can make it the more likely the thief will move on.

Also, lighting is your friend. If you have outside lights in the area see if you can direct them to the area where you park. Also see if you can up the wattage of the bulbs to get some more light.

Good Luck.

Im sorry to see this. Sounds like Arizona is ghetto as hell. Reminds me of some stories a buddy told me out of San Antonio.

If this shit happens in Denver, then I'm not aware of it. Makes me sick.

At least it was just one. I had a full set of wheels stolen off my honda and they left the car just sitting on the brakes. :sniper:
