straight pipes the cheap way

i'm just curious, how would it sound to cut out the muffler and put a piece of pipe in it's place? i'm talking about a stock v6 3.4 liter 4runner. it has stock exhaust and everything. do yall think it would sound decent? or do yall think it would sound broken? i know it would be loud but i'm just curious because i can't find a video or sound clip on it anywhere.

I hate to say this, but I think it would sound like a race car which is, in my humble opinion, loud and obnoxious in any environment other than a race track....

oh man straight pipes sound very good.... that if you had a 5.0 or 350/351...
But then again the original Neon SRT was supposed to come with straight pipe, but then dodge installed a muffler on it.

well i did it, it cost $20 at Mcdonald Muffler. it sounds good it's just loud as hell but it's deep and sounds like a truck. i reccomend it to anyone with an aftermarket sound system because u need the extra volume to hear your radio over the pipes.

When I was looking into changing my muffler I went to the muffler shop and listened to when they cut it off. It was loud as hell on my 4.7L V8. I wouldnt suggest it if you have kids in the back seats or anyone for that matter.

That loud drone will get old real quick unless your under 20 and even then do you want to be portrayed as an obnoxious teen.

Plus no muffler is illegal if it pertains to your locale. There are straight through mufflers that allow the engine to breathe like it has a straight pipe but with a much better sound.

well....atombomb has already gotten the pipes cut. BUT, in case anyone else is interested, a muffler like the flowmasters will be much deeper tone. They are chambered.

i dont think it would sound that great..maybe if you had the v8 it might be different...think ford ranger with straights then think f-150. My guess it would be around the same type effect

Thats a funny comparison. When you say it like that, i think youre right. It would sound better on a V8.

i straight piped my 22-re, mainly cause im a broke high-school student, but it actually sounds really good. the 3.4 shouldnt sound too bad.

The 3.4 is very loud and it'll probably lose power down in the low range since all that flow isn't good for a naturally aspirated motor.

I installed a charrybomb glasspack on my 3.0 and it sounds great. My exhaust was rusted out with a blown up muffler. It was really loud
