Strange rear wiper issue

Just wondering if it's not finishing a complete cycle or positional indicator that says it's at a stopping point. When you turn on the truck, it thinks it needs to cycle to get to a stopping position? Just a thought.
Holy crap, I thought I was the only one having this problem. It's started happening over the last 2 months or so.
My truck does this also -- I've yet to be able to determine how to replicate it, sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. I've got a 2006 2WD Sport V8.
I never use the rear wiper, so it's not an issue of me turning it off and not all the way off. It's not an issue of me leaving the front wipers on as sometimes it will do it when all the wipers are completely off.
The wiper will be at its "rest" position, it will go into its "wipe" position, do one wipe of the back window, and then "rest" again.
No idea how to troubleshoot it.

Does it still wipe if the back window is rolled down? Does your battery go dead? There is another thread here that the wiper wipes and the battery goes dead.
I haven't noticed it doing it with the window down, however with the colder weather lately, I haven't had the window down enough to see -- and most of the time when I turn my truck off, I would roll the back window up anyways.
Possible to find that thread you're talking about? I did some searching but didn't come up with anything obvious.

The wiper does not wipe with the back window down and I haven't had any issues with my battery going dead.
It's an indication that your battery will be dead in the next few weeks. Trust me on this one but thanks to Toyota has warned you to save up some $$$ for the new battery. Get ready my friend!

It's not a battery issue at all. I don't know who would be so silly as to think Toyota made the rear wiper move based on CCA's of a battery. NO, more than likely it is a relay issue connected inside your steering column. No easy fix, you'll have to find a thread on service manuals for the exact circuit to troubleshoot.
I'm in the same boat Brother. I was excited when I saw this thread, now I know I'm not alone. I have a 2006 SE V8, 4wd with 110k on it. I have only had it a year, but this wiper stuff just started. AND........it only did it twice, on the coldest days we've had so far this winter. Granted, in Florida that's only about 30-35 degrees so far, but these are the coldest days we've had and the same days that I experienced slightly strained cranking ability from the starter. It still started fine, but took just a little more effort. This rear wiper thing never happened on warmer, quick starting days. I'm expecting it to happen more when it gets colder here. While it may have nothing to do with the battery as previously posted, I am starting to believe there is a strong correlation here. Keep any update coming for the rest of us to follow. Here is an update. My battery was sounding a little weak in the cold weather so I had the dealershp replace it last week and low and behold my rear wiper has not made the single swipe on start up since then. I talked to the dealership about what was happening and they hadn't heard of that issue before.

Low battery voltage can do some weird things on modern computer controlled cars, but this is a new one for me...
I'll see if I can dig up anything in the service literature to back-up that this is an indication of a failing battery, could be useful for future owners.

Um ok these same exact problems just occurred to me over the last week, now today the dam truck doesnt start and just clicks!!!!! Your saying its the battery but its a brand new Optima battery!!!! What gives!!!???? Please help

So i take it no one else has these problems anymore??? No responses? I brought truck to mechanic he seemed to think lights were left on and was just battery. Well here we are a week later and same problem again. Did not start this morning so its not the battery!!!!! Anyone please help?

Starter? Fuse? Relay? Do you have all chipped keys?

Yup, been having this issue for the last couple months. It was sporadic at first with the rear wiper sweeping just once in a while at start up, now its everytime at cold start up. Still running the OEM Panasonic after 5 1/2 yrs. Excellent battery, no issues until now. And I do run a lot of extra accessories on the charging systems. Checked fuses, relays, etc. seems fine. Haven't tested battery yet, but I'm guessing time for a new battery. Live in warm weather state year round, don't think temp fluctuation is an issue here. Don't use the rear wiper at all so I just removed it and capped the nub with a covered rubber grommet to protect from elements and for asthetics for now until further research done. Anyone else still got this issue going after battery swap?
