strange running issue that is getting quickly worse

Hey guys, my truck starts normally, idles normally and runs normally on the when road. However, when she's warmed up and driven down the road a couple miles, once I put the clutch in to slow down for my turn the truck dies. It started about a week ago, and tonight on my way home, the truck will die at a stop sign, stoplight etc. Does anyone have any idea what could be the issue? First Thing I'm checking in the am is the plugs. Also, while cruising (35 mph, 4th gear....nornal) I can what feel in the pedal what feels like a 'miss'.. a momentary loss of power.
Thanks for any help
Ray

Run a compression tester on the cylinders.

May need a valve adjustment.

Check your Main intake tube for cracks, damage, missing hoses, etc. It might be letting some nasty stuff in the engine. Plus it's fairly common.

I've never done a comp. Test.... my intake tube is some kind of ghetto home depot flex tu e, but its as the day I bought it, solid. Valve adjustment... (vj lol?), would that cause this or are you ****in with me? Haha
Clogged up throttle body maybe?
I cleaned my throttle body a couple thousand miles ago, and even then it was clean...
Check your idle screw. Not likly that it moved on its own though...
Idle screw is in the same spot.... what about the little screw on top of the dashpot??

Thanks fellers, truck started running odd out of no where, hope to get it back to copacetic asap. Thanks again and keep ideas coming to me.

What about a dying alternator??
Ive noticed it getting progressively weaker...
Fuel filter? I've had the truck for 20k miles and never fingered the filter...

Just because your idle screw is in the same place doesn't really mean a whole lot. You could get some build up of junk underneath it.

Just out of curiousity, does it only do this when you slow down or come to a stop? What about when applying the brakes when the 4runner is parked, does any of this happen?

No, just when slowing to a stop. How do I clean under the idle screw? does it screw all the way out, Thanks again!

The idle screw does come all the way out. Pull it out and get a small scraper and see if you have any build up in there.

Also, check your stop screw on your flapper valve (I forgot what exactly it's called) on your throttle body (it's the little 2mm allen screw with an 8mm nut on the lower part of your throttle body). Maybe the sudden closure of the flapper dealy is restricting the motor too much causing the motor to bog down and die.

dying alternator??

I just drove 100mi, my first time driving during the day since the issue started, and the truck didn't die on me once. This got me thinking that my alt might be on its last leg? I was already wondering about the alt because my lights brighten and dim a lot with rpms, and the more lights I turn on, the more the truck seems effected.
I ciuld be totally wrong, but what do you guys think?

Haha, words eaten, now I'm on the side of i4. Second time it shut down on me on my way home, got it started before..... we'll see what happens....

Id say your voltage regulator is crapping the bed. May want to go with your own hunch and replace the alternator. Check all your grounds and power wires.

Ended up getting the truck started as I was on the phone with the towing company, and kuckily made it all the way home. I guess ill research the voltage regulator aswell as a new alt

Well at least you got it running again. Good news though, the voltage regulator is in the alternator. It is more cost effective to get a new complete alternator than buying just the regulator and rebuilding yours. I would take your current one into your local parts store to get tested first.

Ofk

as in, oh ****in Kay..
Tested the alt, its pushing 14+ volts when the truck is on._
the **** broke down on. Me recently and after the. $250 tow bill and $80 wiring fix, now it wants to kill itself while idling.like ass , bouncing from 4-800rpm. What the fvck. How hard is it to make these 4 cyl work together. I'm sitting in.my truck now , listening to the udle loop lower and lower and waiting for it to die

Now I bong, and listen to her run/idle like trash. It's not dying but heavy bouncing.idle... patience grass smoka, patience...
