Strange sound when wheels are slipping

I get a strange rattle sound coming from my dashboard when my wheels are spinning with lost traction and in high torque situations.

It almost sound like when you flick a ruler on the edge of a desk.

Does anyone have any idea what this is? Is it an easy fix? is it a sign of a bigger problem?

It's probably the traction control kicking in or the vehicle stability control

What year is your 4runner? Does it come on when braking also?

When you said high torque situation, do you mean spinning your tires on dry asphalt?

I have a 2001. It does not happen when Im braking. What I mean by high torque is like when im accelerating from a dead stop on a steep hill.

Sounds like it's just your traction control. It's normal for it to do that to prevent "slipping". If you want it to stop, just turn trac off on or trac on off, (one of the two can't remember.)
