Strategy to keep my suspension stock-ish after adding bumpers?

Hey everyone, I searched and searched but didn't see this addressed exactly so thought I would access the hive-mind before doing something stupid.

I'm looking at an SSO Slimline Hybrid front bumper and either Shrockworks or CBI rear bumper. I also have a LFD full rack on order. I'm a carport dweller and it's imperative I don't go over a certain height. I regularly lug around a fridge loaded with beer and a 31M battery. I carry a hitch-mounted bike rack fulltime and want to do something like Xtremluck ultimately.

How should I approach my suspension with all that weight? Do I get all of this stuff and then the suspension to compensate for it? Or invest in the suspension upgrades first? I REALLY need to maintain stock height or up to 1 or so inches over, but no more. That area is NOT my strong-suit. Any ideas on the order of events and/or what type of upgrades would help me maintain this amazing ride?

I have a 2018 ORP with KDSS, TRD pro wheels, aluminum RCI skids and RSG sliders for what it's worth. I also carry a Yakima RTT when I go camping.

Thanks so much!

With that amount of weight you will definitely want to run OME 899 (880lb constant). Don’t waste your time with Icon 3” springs they won’t be enough. Ask me how I know

Look at the Dobinsons suspension upgrade thread. They have what looks like the widest range of spring upgrades and heights for your needs. But you are probably going to have to accept some height increase while upgrading for the additional weight, There just isn't anything out there that I'm aware of that helps with extra weight without adding lift. There are airbag options for the rear end, but not the front. I'm running OME 885's up front to offset my SSO bumper and winch, but those were 2" lift at the time also.

Thanks for the input, everybody.

So something like 2" would probably be added? Kinda thought that might be the case. The good thing is that I'm getting the new rack before I add most of the weight and will have a good idea how much carport clearance I have to play with. If the new height with rack +3" seems too close I might need to reconsider bumpers.

I also need to really read up to understand what does and doesn't work with KDSS. I have almost zero interest in any rock crawling outside of what's needed to get around to mountain bike and camp on Texas ranches and my trips to NM, CO, UT, and CA.

EDIT: Reading through the Dobinsons thread now. Great advice. Thanks.

Why lift it, when you can just lower it and get it to fit into your garage properly?

Like this!!!

Just kidding. Replying to your PM now.

Dammit Mike! This can't be unseen.

You'd better set up the OP with some proper springs as a penance.

Sorry about that. I'll just have to do it again now because this one looks EVEN BETTER!!!

Would Xtremluck or any of you others with bumpers be willing to tell me your truck height (at the roof) and general details on your suspension? That seems like something that's probably on here somewhere too I suppose.

I am in a similar position as you. I park in a parking garage for work/home so I need to make sure the top of my rig is pretty low. I currently have Shrockworks Rear bumper, Shrockworks Slider, LFD offroad crossbars (just the crossbars not roof rack) and about 75 pounds of constant weight in the trunk. I'm able to clear the 6'6" clearance for my work garage (barely).

I could probably get away with running very slim roof rack like Prinsu, SSO, or the LFD roof rack, and still be able to clear 6'6".

My current suspension setup is:

Front:
Dobinsons C59-300 Front Springs - 1.75 inch lift
Dobinsons GS59-574 Strut - additional 1" lift since spring collar since higher

Front total lift: 2.75"

Rear:
Dobinsons GS59-701 Rear Shock
Toytec Superflex HD Rear Spring

Total Rear Lift: Approx 2.5"

Tires:
285/70/17 Ridge Grapplers

srsrogerissrs Thanks! That's awesome.

I believe my carport height is 6'8". Parking garage sounds scary. That WOULD be nice to continue to fit in them without too much worry.

super helpful. thanks.

Also, what size tires?

Eiback Pro Truck lift, best bang for the bucks and front is adjustable for height.

Awesome! Looks great. Is that anything I can use with KDSS?

Also, any idea how tall your truck sits altogether?

you can pretty much use any lift kit with KDSS for the most part.

Where you run into problems are with shocks that have remote resi's, they will require a different mounting bracket for the remote reservoirs.

So as long as you are shopping for a standard spring and shock/coilover combo, you will be fine.

Are airbags a thought with my situation? When I go on trips I'll be adding the filled gas cans, the RTT, bike tools, a second bike, 7 gallon water container, and 2 more people. That's pretty significant. My truck had zero issues with all of this stuff last summer but I also didn't have the bumpers yet.

Thanks again.

I run airbags to prevent sag when the rear is loaded down. I'd recommend them. They are cheap and easy to install.
