Streaming Bluetooth Audio from iphone

Hey guys,

I have been starting to play around with streaming pandora & ipod music from my iphone 3GS onto the 2010's non-nav stereo on my Trail ed..
I have gotten it to work and it works fine but the problem is sometimes I cannot get it active? It seems like once I am driving and I go from the radio to the iphone music, the display will sometimes read "paused"? I cannot seem to unpause it on the iphone or stereo itself. The only remedy is sometimes to shut off the truck and let the iphone reconnect.

Anyone have any experience streaming bluetooth audio to their 2010 4R via an iphone?

I get the exact same issue...no pattern so I can't put my finger on it. I usually go to Settings>General>Bluetooth and re connect the Car Multi Media and sometimes have to hit the pause button.

Worse case scenario is shutting the vehicle off and turning it back on...seems to stream no problem again.

If you or anyone else comes across a solution, please post it for us to see!
In the meantime, I will troubleshoot a bit more.

Yeah, I've always had the same problem and have played with it some, and cannot find a solution but figured out an ok work-around. In order to get the streaming to work, I have to select AUX on the stereo FIRST which defaults to Streaming Audio (with Bluetooth connected) which then automatically starts playing the iPod on iPhone. Once it's playing, you can also quit the iPod and start Pandora.

If you mess up the order, and start the iPod or Pandora first and then select AUX on the stereo, the Streaming Audio will show "Pause." To fix this, you must quit iPod or Pandora completely, switch the stereo to something else (i.e., the radio), then select AUX on the stereo, which should then restart iPod automatically.

It can be pretty annoying, but I've been mainly using the 90-day XM Satellite Radio trial, so I haven't been streaming audio very much.

Now that I only use the bluetooth for the phone hands free and the USB for music thru the iPhone it works perfect.I removed bluetooth audio settings for iPhone from setup and kept the bluetooth for the phone.

I put a dock in the console for my iPhone,when the phone rings, it pauses the music til after the call and then resumes music everytime.It has steering wheel control and shows up on my NAV screen.
I need to have the iPhone on the charger anyways as I use it for a wifi router alot and it uses alot of battery.The new 3GS iPhone when jailbroken is truely amazing,if you get good 3G reception.My kids use the dock for their ipods too.
Here is a pic of the dock and the Apple wire goes underneath and up to the USB in the glove compartment.

Bluetooth Audio Issue

I also have experienced the audio connect issue. The way that I fix the issue is I have to change the audio to the iphone then change the audio back to 4Runner radio on the iPhone itself. It is very annoying.

I have an iPhone 3gs. Easy fix. If you get pause, go to bottom of the iPhone, change to speakers and then back to multi-media. Works 100%!

Clean solution.

Where did you plug the other end of the dock into the stereo? When I plug my iPhone (3GS) into the port in the glovebox, the stereo says "unrecognized device" or something along those lines... I don't have NAV.

I'd like to use the cable in the glovebox for charging.

Bluetooth streaming works, but is flakey. When I switch the "mode" on the steering wheel (to listen to the radio, for example) and go back to the streaming, it's in pause and won't unpause.

Where do you get all of this information on doing these things? Do you have access to TIS? Or are you just very competent when it comes to modifying new vehicles? I'd love to learn.

The pause thing is so annoying. I can pause the music from the Iphone, but I can't resume it again. Makes no sense at all.

I am guessing that the iphone interface will be one of the "major" upgrades in 2011 model

I have the Nav and my iPhone dock works fine thru the USB. I would get the compatabilty BS pop up on my iphone but my phone is jailbroken so I just got the popup blocker from Rock.Bluetooth streaming in with Toyotas is flaky at best and just about drove me coocoo for cocoa nuts. I'm just getting a 100 times better Pioneer or Kenwood Nav and be done with it.They have to actually care if it works or people won't buy it.

It's all just custom work learned thru years of modding cars and being a mechanic with an inquiring mind. I've always taken stuff apart to see how it works or make it work better since I was a kid working out in the shop with my Dad.

This 6th Gen Nav in the 5th Gen. 4Runners supposedly is their "major" update. These Nav's just came out late last year and are used in all the new Toyotas.Maybe a firmware update.

Does any non-NAV person have the glovebox USB port working with a 3GS iPhone? Is there an available adapter? I've only tried the Apple cable that plugs into the bottom of the iPhone...

I tried streaming bluetooth audio for my blackberry today and it works great. My phone doesn't seem to have any of the issues you guys were having with switching modes on the Iturd.

An update on the iPhone 3GS issue:

I erased all my bluetooth settings and started over. I first synced the phone, and during that process the "voice" asked if I wanted to sync a streaming bluetooth player as well. I chose yes.

This seemed to work better than the first time around, where I synced the streaming bluetooth player only. Only the very occasional hiccup now.

The cable in the glovebox is working now, too. Mostly.

The bluetooth option is the most functional, as I really dislike the way the 4Runner stereo sorts through the music when plugged in the USB port. It's SLOOOOWWWW...

I'd rather use cover flow to find my album, then play it. I can plug the iPhone into the glovebox and charge it as well. It's behaving better than it was.

ditto with my storm. since my 90 day trial of XM expired, I find I use slacker radio a lot more anyhow. Less commercials than XM, and a better selection of rock music that I actually like to listen to.

However, I do rarely get the problem where its like it doesnt stream right, and the music is very slow. I end up pulling my phone apart and hard resetting it to fix the problem.....but thats probably a CB storm issue.
