street performance without swaybars?

So to all of the 3rd genners running around without swaybars, how does your lifted truck perform on the road? extreme body sway? or is it manageable?

I would say it's manageable but not ideal. However, I choose to leave both sway bars off at all times.

I run the front off but the rear on with Sonoran steel extension brackets. After taking the fronts off I got a bit more body roll but nothing I would consider sketchy. I like it more actually. Since I have LC coils in the rear I feel like removing my rear sway bar would make it borderline dangerous. But since I can still completely stuff my rear tires with the extension, I see no reason to take it off.

phew! someone with useful information. i run the LC coils in the rear also and that was a concern of mine as well! thanks for the info!

I hate driving without my swaybars... Scares me in the city driving. Yes, it is "manageable" for daily driving, but the moment I have to swerve or something defensive, I wouldn't want to be caught without one.

Just out of curiosity what front coils are you running? Still the TRD tundras from the SS kit? This was one thing I was worried about when I took mine off so I tried swerving and defensive techniques in a remote area. I did this at city speeds (40 ish here) and I felt completely in control. It's definitely not what it was with sway bars though. I don't have any experience doing defensive stuff on the highway without my front though.

I run with front off. You'll definitely notice more body roll. Can't take corners and turns on freeways as fast, obviously. If you have stiffer springs, body roll would be less. I personally find the steering fun, haha. God forbid I have to emergency maneuver on the freeway though. My Runner would be like

I am not in to any heavy off road where I need to worry about articulation but I certainly get why some of you guys are. However for the few dollars you can buy or even make quick disconnect sway bars why sacrifice your vehicles road manners along with the safety of yourself, your passengers and other drivers around you.

Maybe it is just the old man in me but I have seen a lot of bad crap happen from poorly/cheaply done modifications in my time and hate to see anyone get hurt.

All a matter of opinion. I tend to drive faster than most around corners and whatnot.

I disconnected mine and at first thought I liked the ride better, but after a week or two it felt too sloppy and loose so I reconnected them. It only takes a few minutes to climb under the truck and disconnect them. You only need to disconnect one side to get the "no swaybar" effect, but be sure to strap up the endlink out of harms way or you will break it. If you're considering it, I recommend you give it a try and just see for yourself if you like it or not.

I do occasionally disconnect them at the trailhead depending on what kind of trail I'm running.

I have the camburg 2.5 extended travel coil overs in the front and ended up breaking both end links on my swaybar with the extra travel so I just took the whole thing out. I noticed slightly more body roll but with the 650# springs on the co's, it wasnt too bad.

I do have the rear still connected with my ome 890's and LC tokico black shocks. I left them on for 2 reasons. First obviously is safety/control. I would be a bit worried with the soft shocks and springs with no sway bar in the back. The 2nd reason is that the LC shocks are a little to long for the springs and without the sway bar, on full articulation, the springs are loose and could fall out.

Yeah, still the front Tundra coils, at the 2.5" spring perch (whatever the highest recommended is, which would give slightly higher preload). Without the sway bar, I feel like I'm driving an old Lincoln Towncar, or a boat. The steering is sluggish and slow.

I swapped to the Toytec/eibachs which seem a bit stiffer in the corners. So that may make some difference as to the handling.

I think the point here to the OP is just take your sway bars off and see. Just because I say its fine doesn't mean it will be on yours. Rideex's truck and mine are similar in terms of 33s, bumpers, full skids, sliders and you have two completely different experiences. Just dont force yourself to think its safe because it works better offroad.
