I bought those same exact ones about a year ago! A member on here recommended them and wow, it's really quite the difference. My only complaint is that I wish it channeled more light straight back and not out the side but it's a small thing. I can actually see what's on the driveway at night when I back up.

Yeah I'm pretty happy with them too. I think I may have seen the same thing you did because I had these on my watch list for about a year before I finally decided to upgrade.
Wish I had bought them sooner.

So I found these pretty ladies hanging out in a junkyard. I'm a whore so I took them all home for $62 and the promise of a bubble bath.
I didn't notice it at the time, but the headlights didn't have the rubber boots when I pulled them. Whoever was there before me, took damn near everything under the hood along with the boots and bulbs — yet kindly left me the headlights.
Anyone know if I can use the rubber boots off my 97 headlights?

Hey photo shop master. I came across the "Light bar air noise thread", where ppl are trying to make their roof mounted light bars quiet. This made me think of you photo shopping a roof-sized light bar, but instead of a light bar, photo shop a giant harmonica across the front.
That would sound AWESOME! Just think of the looks you would get overtaking ppl on the highway! Any chance you could mock something up?

No not yet. Went to order it and ran into a shipping question that I had to wait on until they reopened. Promptly forgot about it and haven't gotten around to it yet. Never really motivated to drop $250 on something that does nothing but look pretty.
I'll do it eventually just dragging my feet right now since I'm not real interested in installing carpet when it's 100+ degrees all day.

Dash cam install and hardwire along with new gauge lens and GPS hardwire
Well crap, I kinda forgot I had a "not-a-build" thread. Guess I should try to post stuff here & there; lest it wither away into the annals of 4Runner history.
My problem however — is I'm lazy. I plan all sorts of cool things ... but then I have a smoke right before I start a project and promptly wander off and do other stuff ( forage for snacks mostly ).
It's a hard life...
But I finally got around to doing a few things on this cool fall weekend. First up was installing my dash cam. It's only been sitting on my desk since July, so it was time.
It's a Rexing V1. I think it was a $100 on Amazon. Basically I wanted something stealthy, affordable and reliable. The Rexing V1 fit the bill nicely.
Like most of us, I hate having wires all over the place — but I also hate using 12v sockets. So I knew I wanted the wires to run through the headliner to the door pillar then down to the in-cab fuse box. I used an add-a-circuit fuse tap to wire in the power cleanly.
The dash cam sits nicely behind the mirror and is nearly completely obscured by it. Totally out of my line of sight, but if I want to look at or operate the buttons, I can just turn the mirror.
Next up I wanted to replace my old scratched up gauge cluster lens. After 20 years it was due for replacement.
If you look up the part numbers for these lenses, you will find the one for 96-98 Runners is about $50 or so while the 99-02 ( 83852-3D200 ) is like $30. They are the same part. Both the new 99-02 lens and my original 1997 lens had the same numbers in the lower right corner. Don't waste your money on the $50 one.
Lens removal is pretty straight forward. Once you have the gauge bezel removed, just use a flat head screwdriver to gently compress the plastic tabs holding the lens in. I think there are like 8 or so.
Once I had the lens off, I quickly cleaned up the trace amounts of dust that managed to get in over the years. All shined up and black again — I installed the new lens.
Now that I had the lens in, I wanted to finally hardwire the GPS. Like the dash cam, I wanted the GPS to be low profile yet still near the road level so that I could quickly glance at it when needed yet not be looking down or blocking my lines of sight with bulky window mounts holding a big GPS.
My solution was a dash mount which didn't block my sight at all and wouldn't make me have to turn my head or look away from the road. As an added benefit, I could run the wires in such a way as to be all but completely hidden.
Like the dash cam, I also pulled power via the in-cab fuse box with an add-a-circuit fuse tap.
All wired up nice and neat.
In order to run the power to the GPS, I had to cut out a notch in the dash bezel and corresponding area on the dash itself that the bezel slips over. Together, the notches make a nice inconspicuous hole for the power wire.
Once all wired in, the dash is clean without all the cables running everywhere. Even the Scan Gauge is mounted inside of the steering column collar (thanks [MENTION=133963]GGFerrier[/MENTION] for the idea) with the cable completely out of sight since it runs inside the collar down to the port.
I usually keep a ballcap handy and will usually cover the GPS if I don't want to remove it when not in the truck. Plus it's a handy spot to set your cap so it doesn't get crushed by your wild-animal children.
But if I do want to remove the GPS, it takes only one hand and about 5 seconds to remove. Same for reinstallation.
All in all it was a good day with the truck. She's a little more modern and I didn't break anything ...or curse anything while working.

Quite the productive post today. I like your clean style when running wires. I like those add a circuit things too.

Yeah if you ever buy some, be sure to get the ATM size ones. I made the mistake of buying regular full size ones without realizing our trucks use the mini fuses.
I like to think it was a gift from Hef ... to somebody else — who then died and left it for me to buy at their estate sale. I like to think a lot of things though...

I've been looking at the Rexing after seeing you post about it a while back. Then I came across the version with the rear camera option & now trying to decide between the two. Any thoughts on the Rexing with the rear camera option?

I too am curious about the rear camera option. It looks like it's made to attach to the glass. If it's attached instead to the plastic further back, will it stay in place? Proper viewing? Does the cable have enough slack for the lift gate?
Here's to hoping someone buys it and installs it :snacker:

I think I read that it comes with 19ft of cable for the rear camera which should give enough slack. However, I did just read in a review that the rear camera mounts to the glass using a provided double sided adhesive...only problem with this is it would prevent you from rolling the back window all the way down.
