Stuck crank pulley bolt

2005 v6.
I've tried the starter method with a breaker bar. I built a tool that uses both bolts but no good. I used map gas on the bolt. I guess I'll have to get the Schley tool or find a big ass air impact to rent. I love spending extra 2 days to remove one bolt.
Good news is the timing marks are all perfectly in line at 160k miles so no chain stretch.

Holy cow. 1200 ft lbs and 20 volt? I wish I had any other use for something that strong. I've survived 25 years of wrenching with brute force and breaker bars, so I can't see spending $250 for one bolt.

Breaker Bar

Remove the skid plate. Run a breaker bar down through the frame towards the ground. Try and get the breaker bar at about 20° down from parallel with the ground, put a floor jack against it and start pumping. It will lift the car, but eventually mine came loose. That’s the only method that worked for me, the 250lb-ft air gun I have was useless....

It didn’t break free with a bang or anything, it slowly came loose, took me awhile to realize it was actually free. I kept jacking over and over again thinking it was seized, then when I tried to turn the bolt it was free

Breaker bar and jack? How do you prevent the crank from spinning? I'm going to try a strap right now before I go rent a big air gun.

I used the same sort of crank pulley holder that you have. I just stuck a pipe on the end of it, removed the air intake that sits on top of the passenger fender and stacked up some wood blocks on top of the fender for the pipe to press against.
Yes it was kind of sketchy

Is this chain in place of a cam belt? What’s the service life of a chain? Stretch = goosed ?

Are you doing the head gasket?

Home-made tools?

Keep us updated on this...some of the things that scare me on the HG.

If you pull the water pump...more room to maneuver?

Messing with my pulleys recently...was/is easier getting at that stuff from below.

Pop out fuel pump relay.
Place the breaker bar under passenger frame and on bolt and click the starter. Mine just clanged the handle on the frame and didn't budge the bolt.
I ordered the real tool so I can get the proper leverage.

Yeah on the head gasket. I figured I'd try for $10 vs $60. I've done plenty of engine work so once it's open I'm not worried about getting it all back together.

V6 has chains. I've seen you tube videos of the stretch causing the banks to be slightly off time. I'm not planning on replacing the chain now.

The correct tool worked amazingly. 3 minutes to align the tool and get a bar in. One tug with the other bar.

You'll be surprised how much you use that once you have it.
Cordless impact is one of the first things I reach for when wrenching these days.

gaber6 Let me know if you have finished with that tool and want to sell it. I'll need one in about a weeks time.
