Stuck pedal found on 4runner. Not good..

When I had my FJ Cruiser, there was a large concrete slab I wanted to climb over. In 2WD, I bumped the front wheels lightly on the slab then mashed the gas. Rear wheels spun slightly, then engine bogged down and traction control was doing its magic. FJ refused to accelerate. VSC..

It's happened on more than one 4Runner with more than one member here.

I'm not siding with Toyota or the media. At the same time I don't believe Toyota has told the whole truth. First it was "floormat entrapment," then it was a mechanical problem with the pedal assembly. I would hope Toyota does NOT announce another recall in related to sudden unintended accleration, if they do, they will lose any last bit of credibility they have left. Toyota claims a small number of Toyotas can experience sudden unintended accleration, which is true given the number of Toyotas sold. So we may never experience it in OUR Toyota, but I wouldn't raise the BS flag so quickly.

I agree that it appears that Toyota has not been telling the entire story about this situation.

I do however have to wonder why Toyota has decided to update their drive by wire software in the recalled vehicles if the "gas pedal" and "floor mats" are the real problems??

Some say that if Toyota was REALLY SERIOUS about "Customer Safety" they would install this software in ALL of their DBW vehicles (including the 4th Gen 4Runner) and not just the recalled models. Yes, it would cost Toyota more money to do this. Then again what price is Toyota putting on customer safety???

With reports of unattended acceleration in a few 4th gen 4Runners one has to ask the question WHY NOT???

With the hearings gearing up in Washington and more Toyota documents coming to light (like the "We saved $100 million" document) I get the feeling that the press, lawmakers and the American Public are not done with Toyota yet. Time will tell how this all plays out.

Well they have right to be. I'm not worried about it because :happens:. Just like how some are concerned about 2012. IMO, it's about being at the right place at the right time, or the wrong place at the wrong time

Sick world in which we live. And again, brakes overpower engine on all cars ever produced for the street. It's not even a contest. Then, you've got the KEY and also that little thing called neutral.

And yes, my throttle has been stuck on my '03 4runner, many times (thick rubber floor mats for winter). DId I crash? no. DId I run and sue somebody? No.

2010 4Runner sudden acceleration

My 2010 Toyota 4Runner accelerated fiercely, my head was slammed into the headrest. I was at an intersection at the crosswalk; if a person had been in the crosswalk I would have killed them. The car went back to normal as suddenly as it accelerated. Terrifying! My head still aches.

Took car to dealer and reported incident. The manager took a flash light and looked at the gas pedal and floor mat and said “It seems to be okay you have the ??? new pedal, but our mechanic can check it out if you like.”

2010 Toyota 4Runner is not on the recall list so I called Toyota at 800-331-4331 and went straight to phone prompts for 30 minutes. When I finally got an agent she took my info and told me my car is not on the recall list but feel free to get a second opinion!!! She also said Toyota has not received any other concerns about the 4Runner.

Went to the website per instructions of phone prompt and link was not there to send email.
Tried to send fax (1-310-468-7814)– Toyota’s fax machine never responded – could not complete transmission.
Dealership called and said my car is ready and the master mechanic was not able to duplicate my issue and I can pick up my car.
What must I do to get the Toyota 4Runner on the recall list so if the repairs work the dealer can repair my car?
I have no choice but to continue driving this car

oh, so the brake wasn't working?? And I guess you have the 900 ft/lb of torque and 750 hp model since it "accelerated fiercely and slammed my head into the headrest".

Thanks for the info of the push forward on brake thing. Going to Denver thought someone hit me from behind, even stopped walked out to look, nothing. Worse was that it was in the hood! And it wasn't my hood! I did have the Defrst/feet vent on.
Yeah, have to watch out for people going on sites just to cause trouble.
