Stupid center dash console questions

Top slot: condoms
Bottom Slot: spare magazines and lube
Shallow thing by shifter: maibox keys (what, I keep losing them)

That's just Front/Back and Side/Side. The other 14 switches are in my '64...

Left switch = Front Rack LED lights
Right switch=Rear Rack utility light

The top slot on mine stays empty all the time because nothing stays in it.
Bottom slot holds my wallet and spare mag for the 9mm, the combination keeps both from falling out.
Tiny tray is a change tray for me, I almost never have any as I hate using cash.
The square vertical cubby on the passenger side center console is where the phone rests when I have the tablet in the X-Grip, otherwise it's where all the receipts and things get stuffed.
 
Why would they take out the cover for the newer model seems wierd to me. I have a 13' Trail Edition and the upperslot next to the usb and aux sit I can cover those up with the cover.

its because the LE has a different insert for that location, the reason you have that 1/2 cubby hole. I use the lower one for extra length power cord for my dashcam. the spot before the shifter I put my clip on polarized shades.

LoL...I've wondered that since I found the capped outlets in the glove box. WHY would they think people wouldn't want them in there. Seems to be no shortage of power, so why wouldn't the engineers just leaves the ones in the glove box active even if they thought they needed one in the center console?:lookout:

imo its because people connect their cellphone to the usb slot instead of you old farts using your 1st gen ipod :)

I wouldn't want to have to open the dam glove box every time I need to connect/disconnect my cellphone when I am in my vehicle.

and yes I could run a cord outside the glove box usb port but that's another issue when you have a front seat passenger like the warden and don't give 2 shits where her feet go.

This is the correct answer. I don't own an ipod or anything like that. I plug my phone in there and use Pandora if I don't want to listen to the Sirius/XM. In fact I don't think anyone I know has an ipod. And I'm not young. 35.

Big slot, second question mark I also do what what others have mentioned - iTouch wrapped in a black foam blanket.

I agree with the observations that Toyota missed the mark on center console.

I rented a 2013 Tahoe (a few years back) and it had a USB and two 12v ports in the center console. When I opened the console before our trip and saw that I thought "Smart and cool. Thanks".

There is no reason in 2015 why a $40K + SUV should not have that.

OTOH, did you miss where I said they could have just LEFT the one in the glove box AND included the console one as well? Something else us old farts are known for...caring for other's wishes besides just ourselves...:yo:

BTW, 57 here, so I'll own the old farts moniker. I think I have some 8 track cartridges laying around, and some cassettes, some 12" reels, and a few other things if you young whippersnappers have any interest at all in how we got to where we are today?

They didn't have USB back then, they used Firewire, because...well, Apple just had to be different. I have a 2nd gen (first to work with Windows) that I still use all the time.

In the T4R though, I just use a couple of USB thumb drives with music and radio shows on them, on a keychain. I got a 64gig drive to work.

Yup, got a Tech 12 too from the 80's. They only stopped making them 2 or 3 years ago.

Bringing back this thread because I've been trying to figure out the same thing. Any new ideas? I agree that they are too shallow for anything to stay in there without flying out. I might end up doing the liner idea, but either way still shallow.
