Stupid F@$#ing car wash!

My son loves to go to the car wash and since he started school today and was nervous, we went.

The plasti dip on my wheels did not survive the trip. It's peeling in some places and bubbling up in others. So I now have to paint my wheels. I've read the threads that show step by step and it's pretty straight forward. Just wondering whether to go black or another color.


Any black runners with non-black painted wheels?

You cant go wrong with black. sorry to hear about your plasti-dip, my wheels are 'dipped as well but i only wash them with puddles lol. you could go all out and have them powdercoated, then you'd never worry about them again.

If you're going to wheel, plasti-dip and powder coating will chip and peel. I took my time sanding my stock alloys and used self etching primer with a couple coats of "industrial" semi-gloss enamel and they held up very well. If you use a flat black and have to touch up any scratches after wheeling the new paint will be barely noticeable. If you go the powder coat option there is no "touch-up". You'll have to pay someone to media blast the old before the wheels are re-powder coated again. It really comes down to budget and or how much tolerance you have knowing your wheels have a scratch.

+1 For lots of Primer, and a good rattle can paint product. Easy to touch up, cheap, high build, quick dry. What more do you want? The other option is bedliner.

I would like to try bedliner but I'd worry too much about mud staining the wheels.

Duplicolor wheel coating works nicely. :]
with self etching primer and filler primer, base coat of wheel coating and duplicolor clear coat. good luck!

i've been toying with the idea of black 5 star rims with red done on the all of the raised surfaces so they kind of look like lines tracing the 5 star pattern....

kind of like brian mc's rig but with red boarders.

I really like the red accents on the black 5 star. Definitely throw up some some pics when you do it.

Thinking of going with a dark metallic gray, almost black but not.

I at least hoping get to get more than 2 weeks out of it. Oh well, lesson learned. Now to do it right!
