Sorry to hear about your 4runner! Here's my back up camera... I love it. It's wired into the reverse lights so it only comes on when you are in reverse. It was about $70 where I bought it on sale but it's about $90 from Walmart. From the camera to the display is totally wireless and the display only comes on when it is receiving a signal from the camera (only in reverse). The install is fairly easy but does involve drilling a few holes in the back hatch It's pretty funny though because sometimes you will be driving by a place with wireless cameras and you will pick up their signal Sorry these pictures suck but it's freezing outside and im no photographer... Also these are on a 3rd gen t4r.

I used the Coscto $70 cam on three vehicles. It's ok. I found it does much better when I powered the cam anytime the vehicle is on rather than when in R only. The camera takes a few seconds to adjust for light and establish the bluetooth connection. By leaving it on it's ready when I am. Occasionally it does get interference. By placing my hand up near the monitor it clears up. On 2 of the vehicles I wired the display to R and they work well; but again the camera needed to be 'on' when the vehicle is powered. I wish the made these thing (for cheap) that were hardwired but all-in-all it's a great, inexpensive solution.

yea, that sucks. at least get one of those backup beeper alarms that tells ya when theres something close behind you. its saved mine more than a few times on a dark nite. ( slides into hitch, can be used as a step, & cheaper than camera)

New bumper necessary. I had my rear bumper replaced and repainted for about $860... I too backed into something and it popped in, but there were no major cracks. I had the option of popping it back out but as meticulous as I am, I opted for the expensive but pre-accident option of a new bumper

this is one the reasons why I will NOT tint my windows, especially my two front windows.

My parents own a pacifica, and it has tinted windows in the back where the passangers sit and I cannot see shit while looking out.

I can't even imagine what it must be like driving with anything below 35%.

Just be glad you didn't run over some little kid!

Sorry to hear about the damage to your car. On the good side you did'nt hit a person who might have been walking by while backing up and you did'nt see. Things would be a whole lot worse. Probably that backup camera might not be so bad after all especially with the tint.

Backup camera, parking sensors, get the works! lol. I got used to driving with heavy tint back when I was in the Philippines. I had that 5% magic black tint all around my car (only visor on the windshield) and boy sometimes I had to roll down my front windows to back up in spaces.. haha Plus I've driven a friend's car around dusk and she had maybe 35% windshield tint on her Civic.

I have to admit, I didn't know where the thread's title was leading...hate it led to a banged up ride.

I can only say that the main reason I'd never thought about it is that I have the backup camera - so I've never given much thought to darkness of the tint. I highly recommend them now that I have one and have become used to it...Best of luck with the repair.

shoot. ive done that with non tinted windows in the middle of the day...it happens. its part of driving. it sucks the big one but? like everyone said good thing didnt hit anyone get your ride fixed and laugh about it later.

Dude, it had nothing to do with my tint. The thread title was a joke as I stated in a previous post. The reason I hit the vehicle was because I never even looked and didn't even think that a vehicle would've been parked where it was. It's my own fault for being careless and not looking. I've been driving with 5% on all my vehicles since I was 16. This is the first time I've ever backed into something.

Yeah I can understand the thread title being misleading, I was just trying to blame something else instead of myself.. haha but when it comes down to it, I was careless and wasn't paying attention. But I might look into getting a backup camera for sure!
