Sub Amp Mounting problems

I installed a sub and an amp about 5 months ago. A couple of weeks ago I opened my trunk and saw a surprise. My amp had all but falled off the back of the rear seat where I had mounted it . I had used the 4 screws that it came with, but apparently their threads weren't aggressive enough to hold in the pressboard (or whatever material) the backs of the seats are made of. Anyone have any suggestions as to making this amp stay put for good? I have access to every screw known to man at work, so just let me know.

Glad the backs of the seats are carpeted so the previous holes can be hidden .

I would use more than 4 screws for a vertical install. Maybe try slightly longer screws. If you dont think that will hold screw a piece of carpeted MDF into your seat backs. Use more screws than you think you need. Attach the amp to the MDF. It will hold much better.

I would use longer screws. I have my amps mounted to the back seats and i havent had a problem

If you can get the carpeted piece of board off the back of the seat, you could either put some metal strips on the other side so the screw will have something to bite on and not be able to pull through, or you could use little nuts & bolts with washers on the other side, for the same reason. I would also, load it up with as many screws as you could stand.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking that the screws that came with the amp were a little too short and didn't have very aggressive threads. I noticed when I put them in that there wasn't quite as much resistance as I expected. The backs of the seats just aren't real beefy. I think tomorrow I'm going to get some self-tapping screws from work, they hold up really well.

My only concern about using long screws is that they might poke the back seat passengers, heh.
