The quality does seem up to OEM specs. The key does, in fact, have a toyota logo on the back.

yea i saw those links. should've phrased my question differently. does programming it a la the second link you provided also activate the engine immobilizer? or does the immobilizer need to be activated by someone else?

Sorry man! The 3rd link will program the immobilizer and 2nd will program the buttons on the key fob.

damn, off by just a little. my FCCID is HYQ12BAN, according to the eBay add only HYQ12BBX will work. Even though my 03 shows compatible on their list which says its compatible on their listed. So close!
EDIT: heres one that has more FCCID's if yours is off like mine was

so does this new key have the little "dot" near where the metal/plastic meets? i read on another thread that this dot was needed for the engine. thanks!
I'll ask the same thing as the person before, anybody have any luck with finding a solution to the earlier 120's? My 04 has a dot on the key which is a different frequency or something like that and these ebay keys don't work.
I bought one from ebay seller "keylessking" before researching any of this. His auction said it fit 03+ but when I took it to get it cut the locksmith said it wouldn't start the truck. Called keylessking and they said that was bad info and to go ahead an have it cut.
Yeah they were idiots and so was I for listening to them, had the key cut and tried to program it but it won't accept the program. The remote section works but the key won't start my 4runner.
Want to replace this big ole remote fob with a one piece unit!

From what I have found so far in my research none of these ebay keys have the dot on the key that you are talking about.
Hopefully I'm wrong but that's what I have found.

Lmao.. it does have the logo on the back huh? Either the seller doesn't know what they're selling or they're posting wrong info..

Might have to try this, but would rather have a switchblade key. Has anyone found a quality switchblade key this would work with?
I just bought one for my 04. Says it should come in Monday. Let me know if it works for you. I'm going to wait to hear back before I go ahead and cut mine. I hope this works!
I have an 04 and it won't work.
It looks like it might only be 05 and up that do work? If you have the little dot at the base of the key right by the black plastic then it doesn't work with these transmitters. Won't start the vehicle.

Wow. Since I have checked out this mod I have come to find out that both of the fobs for my 2004 are aftermarket and have no idea which fcc id# is for my 4runner. I would guess that if I buy a key fob on ebay if it works both fcc id#'s I will be golden. I called the Toyota dealership and they can only give me the part number. They say they would have to hook car up to computer to identify whcih fcc id # is for my 4runner. I want to have the key gob combo. My fob now doesnt work the back glass.

The key I ordered said it would work for my FCC ID. Another person reported success with a 2003 runner earlier in this thread. I think these may be different keys than had been discussed in previous threads...at least i hope so.

Got my key in today. Unfortunately, no Toyota logo on mine, got the smooth back one--but not a biggie. Was a little worried when it turned over but didn't start, but when I reprogrammed the key with the instructions on making a sare chipped key it worked great. Ace Hardware charged me 2 bucks to cut the key, and was alimentary on how it wouldn't work. After the Nintendo door/key magic...he beame a believer! Thanks!:drum:

- I ordered the key using your ebay link. I received the key with the Toyota logo on the back.
