Suction Cup Phone holder

I know there are there are threads about phone holders but they seem to be all over the placve place and my question is more specific. I was wondering how well the suction cup mounts hold to the dash by the flasher button. I DO NOT want to mount to windshield. Does anybody have any suggestions? I just don't want anything blocking the windshield at all. The cops in the town next door ate reals asses about that. I know someone who they ticketed for just having rosary beads hanging from her mirror and I have been once for something else hanging there. Also do not want to have to drill any holes at all. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you...

I’m actually in the market for another phone holder as my trusty 8yr old Kensington has developed a terrible rattle. It’s a little elbow arm on a suction cup. I have it mounted right under the 4wd knob and it’s perfect there. I ran it there on my 04, my 15 (despite the the trim being narrower than the suction cup), and currently run it on my 07 in the same spot. I think it MIGHT be mounted directly to the trim panel, but I may have a black plastic circle that’s attached to the trim by 3m command strips. You may have some sticking issues directly to the trim, but few and far between.
 
Thanks a lot guys. I will have a look at them. I have seen several other members' mounts but they all involved screwing through the plastic. The main reason I don't want a dash top mount is because I don't want it to damage it, knowing what happens to out dashes affer this many years and mine is till almost perfect. There was one than I can/t remember the name of. It was a long flexible mount that attached to the front right seat mounting bolt. That was also an idea but I can't find it and am worried about it bouncing all around. I really liked the idea though. Hopefully I can afford a RAM mount since they seem to be the best. Hard to be an enthusiast while unemployed with a screwed up back who can't get disability yet. I even have to pay to have my oil changed now. WHAT KIND OF WORLD IS THIS!?!?!? :faint:

It has a sticky coating on the suction cup that helps hold it.

I have it stuck by the flasher button.

I don't know how else I'd do it. I didn't want to drill or screw anything. Go for it once you find one you like.

Thanks for that link. I was looking for that ans my search abilities are a little on the "deficient" side. That is just what I needed!
 
I had a ram X mount on a suction cup in that area, it held well - for a suction cup. Biggest problems were the knees of passenger bumping it off, and every once in a while the suction cup just failed - 1. because suction cup, 2. because the cup was just slightly bigger than the surface area available.

I re-located the suction cup down to the face of the pop out compartment underneath the thermostat controls. It still falls off every once in a while - bc suction cup. But that's the only time it falls off.

I think I am going to attach the base underneath the hazards button again, via screws this time. The screw base is smaller than the suction cup so it will fit and look better, and passenger knees won't bump it as easily. The other option would be to place it via screws under the rear window control. I'll have to look at both carefully and decide before I start drilling.
 
Bracketron

I use(d) a bracketron one on the side of the center console, the arm is like 8 inches long, in warm weather it stays really well. Now that its a bit colder it seems to fall off on a regular basis. Still have it in my truck as it will probably stick to glass better but don't really like the look of it up there...
 
I have the same one that SlowGoat uses. For a long time I mounted it on the passenger side of the console next to the cupholders, but a hamfisted (kneed?) passenger would make it his goal to kick it off every time he was in the car.

The mount is made by iOttie. They're about due for a % off sale on Kinja/Jalopnik's deal of the day.
 
I jut ordered the RAM mount. I figured it is a good quality and folks seem to like it. I guess if I try it out and it falls off too easily I can return it. Also got the stick on mount just in case. Hopefully there is a way to take it off harmlessly if I ever needed to. I don't do any wheeling so hard shocks and bumps shouldn't be a problem. I just don't want to drill holes. It was a little expensive for my taste but the warranty is good. Thanks again everybody. That's why I love this place!

The RAM mount came in and the suction cup seems really solid. Feels like if I pul/shake it too hard it will pull the bezel piece right off. It was a little pricey but I think it is exactly what I needed. Thanks again for the opinions...
 
I have an Ipad holder from Amazon that has a windshield suction mount and I'd like to move it to the top of dash. That part of dash is not glass smooth so I was thinking of getting one of those circular things with a sticky back and slapping it on top of the dash. Then stick my Ipad holder to this thing and hopefully it'll stay up there and not lose the sticky when the car gets super hot.

I have been using one for 2 years now, bought my first one for my previous vehicle and when I got my 4runner it was one of the first things I did to mine.
