Summer Family Outbound Overland Trip - Green Ridge State Forest

Depending on how bad the rain is it may just be me coming out in my LC for a day trip. I'm a little wary to take to the 4runner out with the factory tires if its super muddy.

With the new itinerary it will be significantly less muddy, way more rocky..

Due to the expected heavy rains in Green Ridge area we have decided to adjust our location South to the George Washington National Forest outside of Harrisonburg VA. This area's forecast shows significantly less rain.

Friday Evening:
We will camp individually at Todd Lake Campground ($16per site) in George Washington National Forest. The campground is first come - first serve but I expect it to be empty considering the weather. (38.366, -79.211).

Saturday:

Rally at Todd Lake Campground at 10am (38.366, -79.211). We will then proceed to the top of Reddish Knob to take in the likely rainy view, when appropriate we will break for lunch under our vehicle awnings. After lunch we will proceed to towards Brandywine WV where we will stop for ice-cream, drinks, and snacks at the local convenience store. From Brandywine we will proceed to Flagpole Knob via the easy route- Dunkel Hollow RD. After flagpole we will head back to Todd Lake.

Those who wish to stay the evening can camp at the Todd Lake campground or if there is enough of us we can find a group site close by in the NF.

I will update the GAIA GPS folder with the new route later tonight.

Regardless of where we go were going to get wet, but we will be in good company and we will make plenty of stops to allow the family's to stretch their legs under our vehicle awnings.

Sorry, count me out. New location sounds good, but it doubles my travel time. :(

We are still up for the adventure! Do we need to call and reserve a camp spot or just pay when we get there?
 
Well, this is a bummer. We we're really looking forward to hitting the trails with our little man, but we go from a 90 minute drive in the AM to a 3hr drive. We're gonna have to bail on this one. Hoping to get out on the next one!

I am still out on this one. Even though my other Saturday plans may get cancelled due to the rain I still have to be bright-eyed-and-bushy-tailed early Sunday morning for my youngest daughter's 10 year birthday party with a group of her closest friends.

Have a great time! Even if it's wet out don't forget to take pictures and post!

We're going to roll around noon and grab lunch on the way down.

Such a bummer! We'll miss you guys - I was looking forward to meeting the little guy. Next time! I will definitely try to throw together another family trip perhaps for end of September. We just can't argue with Mother Nature.

I've got a few duraflame logs and two bundles of wood packed. Plus my huge canopy and every tarp I own!

Yes on simplex 1, I'm guessing we will get to camp around 7pm tonight.
 
Ugh...I was hoping the weather would get better because my wife was really looking forward to camping but it looks like we are out this time around. You guys have fun and be safe!!
 
Unfortunately I'm not gonna be able to make this one. Pretty bummed we're not gonna be able to make it, but we will for sure be at that next one!
