Sunk my 4Runner... can it be saved?

Phil, I just realized my uncle in springfield might be ready to give up his white sport 4th gen. I think it has about 130k miles, 4x4, V6, and a sunroof and upgraded to leather and seat warmers and a few other things, but nothing offroad-ish. He must be the second owner...I was with him when he bought it, about 2 years ago. I can ask him if that interests you. I only say it cause he mentioned selling it a few weeks back and I know he has like 6 cars and 2 drivers at his house...

Here's a trick on how to use the parking brake so the transmission pin will not be holding the car, instead it's the brake.
1. put it in neutral first,
2. set the parking brake,
3. release the brake to let the parking brake hold the car
4. then, put the gear to park.

this way, when you are on a steep incline, you'll not have a hard time moving the stick to D or Reverse and at the same time avoid breaking something in the transmission.

That's a great tip... and I'll be sure to use it when I'm launching my boat with my new 4Runner (just as soon as I get a replacement!).

Lunch, I'm always interested in options. Everything sounds good, except that I was hoping to get a V8. But the leather upgrade and seat heaters sounds awesome! If the price is good, and my wife likes the truck, then it could make a lot of sense.

Sounds like a good call. Sorry to hear about this... I've always (now) used my P-brake, especially after a former truck of mine got a ceased P-brake cable from disuse... I used it once (realizing I should be using it) and it wouldn't disengage... Grrrr...$$... new brake cable, etc..... I swear at myself for being an ID10T. Remember on hills/inclines to also leave your veh. with the front wheels turned so it'll roll off the road/ into a curb should the brakes give way (but obviously not in the boat ramp scenario).

As for a replacement Runner, I'd stay away from a sunroof. Mine's OK, but I really don't use it much and it really take away from headroom. I wish the 4th gens had the roof height of the Lexus GX's. I prefer cloth (not cold in winter, not sticky in summer).. however, seat heat is kinda like therapy for a sore back sometimes. And, who doesn't like toasty buns....

Not to 'offend' anyone, but if this happened to me, I'd likely replace it with a Taco.. I really miss my pickup when I go to get lumber, etc. This way I still get a veh. with which I'm familiar for maintenance and repairs/mods...

Glad no one was hurt. The post about the kids getting killed almost broke my heart. I have two little ones.... You start viewing the world in a very different way with kids.

Sunroof - Thanks for reminding me the plus of not having a sunroof

I choose limited mostly due to the fact most had sunroof, then it shows up and I realize no sunroof...took delivery anyway, and I miss having that roof and can only imagine how nice with the roof open and that back window open damm near a convertible ! but I am tall and the headroom is nice

As for the sunroof, I can't live with out it !!!

If I can't open the shade, to crack the sunroof to let the heat out in the summer and let the daylight shine in, then what's the point of having a 4 Runner... or any car for that matter... or a boat... or a house...

If I can't have my sunroof / moon roof, I might as well go join the _______ (fill in your favorite cult here) movement, and spend the rest of my life chanting, and dancing, and serving a higher cause. :eyebrows:

You put your truck in park on a boat ramp with a 4000# boat and expected the transmission pawl to hold?

I am glad I read this thread because I was unaware of this as well. I am currently without a boat (to be fixed soon ) but I have had boats since I was 10 years old although trailering is new to me, only the last ten years or so and only two or three times a year. Many times I have stopped on the ramp to release stern trailer straps, check plug placement, release outboard chock support etc without setting parking brake, although here in Georgia and the places I have wen in Florida the ramps are extremely shallow angle. On a steep angle ramp I think fear would make me use the parking brake.
