This is absolutely not driven by wind pressure. You can distinctly hear a motor pull or push it at precise speeds.

You r sure about that? I have never heard a motor and seem to remember reading a description about it that said what I said.
When you look at the mechanism there's nothing obvious attached to it, just the deflector a small pivot point and a spring. What you are saying is that there is some kind of sensor reading windspeed with a motor and gearing? sounds unlikely. Can someone show a technical illustration of this system from the shop manual?

I also hear a motor, there is no sensor it automatically adjusts when your speed hits between 55 and 60 mph. When you open your sunroof, the last thing that happens is the wind deflector raises. Im sure it is the same motor that does both operations.

I guess i'll have to check it out more closely, sure sounds like a real pita if its that complex!
 
Motorized Deflector

It IS motorized. It raises when the sunroof is opened. It LOWERS when crossing 55mph . And it LOWERS again at about 40mph when slowing down.

It's in my owners manual, and I have observed it doing exactly as I described it. I can definitely hear the whine of a motor when it activates in either direction.
 
Not only is the deflector motorized, it also has a time delay to rise after going below 55. After going below 55 it times out before rising, this keeps the deflector from going up and down when traveling around 55, which is a common speed limit.

Hysteriesis

A little positive feedback of the control voltage to the comparator input does the trick.

Allows it to switch at 57 mph (example) while speeding up and the next switching setpoint is moved to a lower speed. Gives a deadband of several mph to prevent cycling.

:confused: Find a road that you can reach the speed (55, whatever) the deflector lowers then stop the vehicle as quickly as possible, you will find that deflector will rise probably when you are stopped.

Not a time delay. Break 55ish MPH, then slow to 45, it will stay lowered. Slow below 40mph, and it will raise.
