Sunroof / Moonroof Motor

Hi,

I've got a 2014 limited that I purchased 13 months ago with a sunroof that recently started working intermittently. At first, when it was left out in the sun on a hot day, the sunroof would not move. After a few months of that, it started intermittent operation at lower ambient temperatures.

I've taken it to the dealer twice. They believe the problem is the motor, at $800, but "can't guarantee that it won't end there."

I don't care enough about the sunroof to spend that kind of money on it. Is there an easy way to disable it so that an accidental bump on the switch doesn't cause it to move and then get stuck open? I assume I can get to the switch and potentially unplug it, but don't know if that might cause some diagnostic code or other annoyance.

I've seen some similar threads on much older 4Runners, but nothing related to recent model years so I figured I'd post the question.

Check your manual, there should be a procedure listed on how to reset the sunroof if it starts acting up.

Similar question: Is there any way to manually close the sunroof / moonroof if the motor does stop? I used to have an old '79 Saab 900 that used a basic allen wrench. When the motor stopped working, I could still open and close it using the allen wrench.

I'm not aware of any way to do that.

Pull the fuse if it's on its own circuit?

It does indeed! There's a Sunroof fuse in the interior fuse box. Thanks.
