Super excited I got a new rim

Ran over about a foot long piece of a diesel spring on the highway the other day. Had to change my tire on the side of I-5 just before rush hour (meaning heavy traffic still able to fly by my at 70mph). Thank god a DOT worker showed up 5 min after I pulled off to the side and busted out a big a$$ jack to make the tire change that much easier. Good lord that help was nice. Nice to know some of my tax dollars are working for me.

Anyway, I wanted to use this as an excuse to upgrade my rims and tires but that wont fly because I have to drive up to Vancouver BC this thursday. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

Kidding -- glad you're ok and not a smear on road on the I-5. Here in Los Angeles, I-5 typically moves at 7mph. So the only thing you're in danger of while changing your tire is a parking lot of spectators.

Made that way. My understanding is its corrosion resistant paint, due to where it's stored.

Is that really the reason though I wonder? I remember my old car had a yellow spare in that exact color and I always figured it was Toyota's way to deter you from driving on a donut (and in the 4runner's case, to deter you from driving on a spare w/o a TPMS).

Although, I have no clue why Toyota didn't paint our steelie spare wheel yellow too. I believe my 17" full size spare comes on a black steelie...

Thankfully no, wheel is ok.

Good idea on the WRC, Landcruiser, I just might do it...gotta get a sweet hood-scoop to match :rockon:

My 4th gen has a matching spare. I would rather drive around on a flat than that choice of wheel color.

Did you consider using your ToyotaCare Roadside assistance or figured it was just easier to change the tire?

Oh, and its a danged shame the wheel is yellow. I'd add a TPMS and rotate it in otherwise and get 20% more tire wear. As it is now, you would have to dismount the tire to use it. It is a regular full size spare like the others, correct?
