absalom That's really the first time I've seen it look good! the white looks great...

I've had almost a dozen 4runners of that era, I parted all of them out except for 2 that were 22re's . Some were clean low miles some not... those runners with that motor(3.0) were just junk. My opinion... I wouldn't waste the money.

Check out this one!

I think I see surface rust on the front suspension/frame. Most anyone will tell you the 3.slow is a POS motor. The only thing it has going for it is that i'ts all original and is a 4x4 5speed. I don't understand how 4x4 5speed means triple the price...I'll take an auto and save 4 grand. To spend $7k+ on this is just ridiculous.

People always love to make assumptions without seeing these vehicles. Then they claim that the selling prices are ridiculous when the fact of the matter is that it has been proven time after time that a clean 90's 4Runner can fetch a pretty penny. These things are getting harder and harder to find clean, and restoring one to similar condition with OEM parts will easily exceed those sale prices. At these prices, these 4Runners are not going to be used as daily drivers, but more than likely stuffed in a garage to be used as a weekend vehicle. The "I would rather buy one for 2 grand and spend the rest on mods" is totally irrelevant. The money is in clean, stock specimens.

I agree, a Black '99 Highlander, 6cyl, 5 speed w/locker plus mods & maintenance records just sold in the classified's for around $9500. If I totaled my truck I would have bought that in a heart beat. It could take a very long time before before you see that combo again. I'd rather buy that then some POS $3000 rig & have to do a ton of crap to get it right. It was a Cali truck to no rust either.

So is it just the 4x4 with a 5-speed that makes this rig rare? Or is it the age, leather, condition etc all wrapped up that makes it rare?

yep!

Yeah, you nailed it. The color and leather are kinda rare, but really, the condition was ridiculous. Now if it had a factory locker...!
