Supercharger crack in the housing.

Greetings everyone!
I got my supercharger in the mail today. Got off a guy on kijiji (craigslist alternative in Canada). I decided to look it over and found this.

I'm pretty disappointed... The guy said it was rebuilt by John Bond 3 years ago and it was sitting on the shelf since. I need some input from the knowledgeable people on this forum! Should I try to run it as is? JB weld it? There is no way I can return it at this point.... Also whats the best way of checking if its actually rebuilt?

I'd take it to a welder and have them weld the hole up and never worry about it again.

That's my assumption as well. I'd be surprised if it's anything else. The only other thing I could see it being is magnesium but that's a stretch.

Drill the hole out larger and tap it. Then put in a plug with teflon tape.

Is it magnetic? If so, its ferrous and will not be aluminum. You could also do a spark test on it to check and see what kind of metal it is. I do it all the time before welding any material my customer is unfamiliar with to make sure I use the right filler metal.

What about JB weld or something? My cousin cracked his engine block while wheeling on his FJ cruiser. His mechanic used some kind of epoxy to fill the crack and its still holding up.

JB weld might work. But you already made the investment, why not protect it? For a welder to repair that, it shouldn't cost too much. I'd hold off on drilling and tapping due to the metal shavings produced. I'd bite the bullet and do it right.

The housings are aluminum. It's an easy weld fix. Just have the area totally degreased and super clean for the welder

I actually second this notion. Welding aluminum may be difficult unless you know someone or are proficient yourself. But you could easily drill the hole out and tap it.

What's strange is that the hole looks like a wear hole from something rubbing against the housing. Hmm..

There is an opening right in front of it with something that looks like a metal plug or bolt pressed in, I'm guessing it happened when someone was working on it.

Sorry I might be wrong, its the part that the oil pan bolts up to. Not too good with names)

What's on the other side of the hole? Does it go into the plenum or is it just part of the casting that doesn't do anything?

Looks like jon bond ****ed up while pressing out the rear rotor pack bearing. They must have pressed it too far and cracked the casing. That is the intake into the S/C it will see vacuum only, no boost so honestly I would just JB weld it.

Anyway it will be fine, just seal it up quick and run it.

Btw where do I put oil in this thing? The guy included a bottle of lucas SC oil.

Is that proper stuff to use? How much does it take? Should I just dump the whole bottle and call it a day?)

hahaha no. dont put the whole thing in. It takes 4 Oz.s

Your 8oz bottle holds more than the 4oz requirement......am I missing something here?
