Why would a person prefer the 1st gen charger over a 2nd gen?

If the 1st gen was the better of the two - why did they release gen 2?

If anything, the 2nd gen is better because you dont need to send it out for a rebuild. You can do it at home.

The same could be asked about the 4Runner...our 3rds are great, so why'd Toyota make a 4th Gen.
I know its not the same thing, but people are always trying to improve what they have. I know nothing about these superchargers though, so can't answer that.

Does anyone have a link on what you actually do for the "rebuild"? When I was looking at a 3rd gen that was for sale w/ a supercharger, I called the dealership. The "master tech" said he had never done a service on one, and not to mess with it unless it sounded funny, or was performing bad. Supposedly he had been at toyota for 2yrs. But everyone on here seems to say there is a fairly easy kit to go through it...?

There was a thread yesterday where i linked a few things. Go back a few pages in the 3rd gen section for a thread called "rebuilding 2nd gen supercharger".

Or you can wait until this evening as I will be rebuilding mine this afternoon.. been planning it for weeks. Funny all this stuff about rebuilding keeps coming up.

Ugh... that's a crappy analogy for sure. Different models are introduced to update styling and to adapt to technology advancements.

If they made a drastic change to the supercharger and now only support the 2nd gen to me, that says there was something seriously wrong with the 1st gen. IMO.
