SuperCharger Nose Cone Rebuild?

So I think my 2nd generation supercharger nose cone needs to be rebuilt...but how would I know for certain?

I have read somewhere that they normally last around 90K and mine is over that.

What are the consequences of continued driving with it the way it is?

Typically you'll get some excess noise up front and possibly some leaking. You might be fine just getting a new coupler, but since you're in there I would replace the bearings. I'm actually going to be rebuilding my sc really soon and could help you with yours when I'm done. I bought a press and will be trying my skills at the rebuild.

I would be more than happy to have a supercharger rebuild get together.... and in that case, I have a brand new URD 7th injector needing to be installed too... maybe find the time to squeeze that in?

I don't see why not. The minds working together on this is probably for the better. I'm pretty damn nervous about it.

We definitely could try the install. I've never done one or have any experience soldering wires but we could figure it out. If you have a good working space I could bring the press over the hill and do it at your place. My garage is a mess but I could clean it up if you guys want to do it here.

with a 2nd gen SC your in luck. There are two ways of doing a "repair/maintanence"

You can change just the plastic coupler inside which gets rounded out overtime with a oil change kit from toyota. Comes with the plastic coupler and SC nose cone oil. $50~ if i remember correctly in the beginning of this year.

next if you want to replace the entire nose cone, which rebuilds/changes out the bearing in the nose as well as the coupler mentioned above as well as where the pulley sits which is where majority of leaks seem to happen. Toyota also sell this nose cone replacement kit for 2nd gen SCs only for about $260~ if i remember correctly.
let me see if i can find that link again. i cant remember it off the top of my head.


by the way both jobs are easy, and are do-able with the supercharger still mounted.
Although it would be MUCH easier with the SC off its really up to you. job time can be cut in half without having to dismount the charger, but also can go against time as well with trying to figure out and get everything properly aligned and torqued with the SC still one. It comes down to what you feel comfortable with.

I don't know if you want to wait. The replacement parts for the nose cone comes out to about $70, so you could save $160, by replacing the bearings and seal yourself. I can help you with that, barring I don't screw mine up first...haha

Have you rebuilt yours yet? I am still looking to do it. I missed out on the mod day last weekend becuase it was my younger brothers graduation. Looked like a good time!

Nope not yet. I've been busy with other stuff and my press broke the first time using it...

I'm hoping to get it done soon, but we'll see as my weekends are filling up fast.
