I think the 7th injector is required on the auto.

with 198,000 on it you should really look at your engine to see if it can handle the extra pressure. rebuilding it would be a good idea to make sure the supercharger doesn't find any weak links. as for the transmission goes I think a trans cooler will help you.Gadget's 4Runner this website should give you good info on what to do.

Hiya!
I'm a noob here, so take what I have to say with a huge grain of salt...
I have an 02 that currently has 140,000 miles on it and bought it from a Toyota dealer 5 years ago with about 75,000 miles. It already had TRD supercharger with no other engine mods. When I bought it I was completely ignorant about 4runners with superchargers and drove it as a daily driver, commuter, grocery-getter, and long distances. I never beat on it and occasionally towed a small trailer. Except for some terrible gas mileage when towing and a recent knock sensor failure (and thanks to this forum and the people who contribute to it, I was able to replace it myself and save a huge wad o'cash - THANKS ALL!), I didn't have any problems. Maybe I have been very lucky so far. So I guess what I'm saying is, it may depend on what kind of driving you're going to do after you get that S/C on. Now that I've been enlightened by this forum and gadget's website, I'm really considering the trans mods, high-flow injectors, and/or the 7th injector. I would look into what the people in this forum recommend and get your engine checked out to see if it's in good enough shape to handle the extra pressure of a S/C. These engines seem to last a looong time though, and physically installing the S/C is pretty simple. The difference between driving with and without a S/C is pretty amazing! I couldn't have said it better myself. Mine has 132K and it is running better than ever. No fuel or trans mods at all, unless you consider the "Free FMU" a fuel mod. If you are not drag racing the thing, it will hold up just fine. However, in order to justify the expense of slapping it on a truck with almost 200K, I hope you have taken good care of it and can expect significantly more miles out of it. I am not sure how confident I will be of my rig at 200K.

7th injector is a kit that increases the fuel delivery capticity. the supercharger is increasing airflow into the engine and it not doing anything to increase the fuel flow. with the superchager, you can go beyond the fuel systems limits and cause fuel starvation, pinging, etc etc. the 7th injector correct this...for BOTH transmissions

ive got some questions too regarding installing a super charger on mine as well. ive got 119k on my 99 and it is an auto. it is my dd what will i need to do just to get it runnig right with the s/c? besides the 7th injector. i am in California and i need to stay carb legal as well. does my ecu need to be re-flashed?

Yes you should get the 7th injector kit. It will get the most out of the supercharger. I am almost positive the URD kit comes with everything necessary but they also say you can tune it to raise performance. "Although a startup map is provided in every kit, a wideband air fuel ratio kit, scan tool, serial cable, and laptop are needed for optimal end-user tuning. Tuning instructions are provided."
These fuel upgrades are used to cure the High Gear/Low RPM ping.
For what its worth I have also been running my 2nd gen supercharger for a good 40k miles with no fuel mods. I'm not saying you should but I'm just telling my experience.

yeah its an auto. No mods on that either.
This is another thing people say you should do which is the valve body upgrade and a tranny cooler would be helpful.
I have often heard of people with over 100,000 miles with the supercharger with no mods with no problems. They might just be lucky but I also think Toyota really overbuilt these engines and made a solid tranny.

I do not know about the ECU but you will need the carb sticker to pass CA emissions. My S/C is new and comes with one so I wont have to worry!

did you buy the 4runner already super charged or did you install the s/c after? if you did it after you bought the 4runner did you have to reflash the ECU?
