Maintenance update continued
Still chipping away at the list. Last week, didn't get around to doing much other than swapping out my old red top for a yellow top. Sounds like people have been hit or miss when it comes to Optima batteries, but I've had fantastic luck with mine. My OEM Panasonic lasted about 4 years and 90k miles or so and I thought that was great. I had the red top for 6 years and about 110k+ miles and it was actually still cranking strong when I yanked it out. As a matter of fact, I threw it in the Mustang.
Yes, I know my engine bay is filthy. I promise you it's a new battery.
Last night I swapped out rear brakes. Took a leap and ordered
this cheap set from Amazon. We'll see how they go. So far they seem pretty nice.
New Parts
New and old rotors
New and old pads
New parts installed
The old parts didn't look all that bad which is crazy because I'm pretty sure that these are the original rotors which have probably only been turned once and probably only the second set of pads. After over 200K miles, they still had plenty of life left in them. Could have probably turned the rotors another time or two. The install was pretty drama free. The time I had them turned, it was with an "on-car" lathe so I'm not sure if these rotors have ever been removed from the vehicle since it was built, so freeing them up was probably the most difficult part. Thank goodness for the screw holes. I just figured I'd change them out since I would experience a little vibration under moderate to heavy braking at times.
The Stang is also progressing:
First order of business was to lose those weld wheels. They're great for drag racing, but never been my style. The rear tires scrubbed when I hit a bump and the first maneuver that I tried to do on skinny fronts let me know right away that it wasn't something that I wanted to daily.
Now I only have to swap out my wheel bearing and give her a nice thorough cleaning and she should be happy.
