PD don't be picking on my new friend from club lexus. Lexus guys have to stick together, cause you Toyota guys are..................................
much more awesome.

Club Lexus is a cool site! (If you like chatting with old people about sticker prices and warranty issues). Here is a sample post on Club Lexus:

Can anyone post up your lease price? If you purchased how much did you get off sticker?

Also, I am concerned that there is a bubble in my 3M clearbra. Thoughts?

It's pretty much a race car, which wasn't really what I was looking for. The car turns the 8th in about 6.3X's with a 60ft in the 1.3X's and traps about 110 mph. When I took ownership of it, it was trailered in on drag slicks. Car also has a full cage. Not exactly daily driver material, but... oh well. It's a toy. I'm currently trying to do the opposite of what was done on the 4Runner and turn a purpose built vehicle, into a grocery getter. She's getting the "Superman" treatment as we speak. Something about these old fox bodies that just makes me feel 16 again. I've just always had a soft spot for them.

So anyway, that's what I've been up to. Next on the docket, I've got a new yellow top and a new wheel bearing sitting in boxes in the back of the truck and I've got a rear brake set inbound. Thanks for stopping by!

Fox body mustangs are hard to beat! My brother and I built up a 91 coupe. It had a 398 stroker in it and it would run like a raped ape! We never did get it on a track, it was more our Saturday night, back road race car.

Maintenance update continued

Still chipping away at the list. Last week, didn't get around to doing much other than swapping out my old red top for a yellow top. Sounds like people have been hit or miss when it comes to Optima batteries, but I've had fantastic luck with mine. My OEM Panasonic lasted about 4 years and 90k miles or so and I thought that was great. I had the red top for 6 years and about 110k+ miles and it was actually still cranking strong when I yanked it out. As a matter of fact, I threw it in the Mustang.

Yes, I know my engine bay is filthy. I promise you it's a new battery.

Last night I swapped out rear brakes. Took a leap and ordered this cheap set from Amazon. We'll see how they go. So far they seem pretty nice.

New Parts

New and old rotors

New and old pads

New parts installed

The old parts didn't look all that bad which is crazy because I'm pretty sure that these are the original rotors which have probably only been turned once and probably only the second set of pads. After over 200K miles, they still had plenty of life left in them. Could have probably turned the rotors another time or two. The install was pretty drama free. The time I had them turned, it was with an "on-car" lathe so I'm not sure if these rotors have ever been removed from the vehicle since it was built, so freeing them up was probably the most difficult part. Thank goodness for the screw holes. I just figured I'd change them out since I would experience a little vibration under moderate to heavy braking at times.

The Stang is also progressing:

First order of business was to lose those weld wheels. They're great for drag racing, but never been my style. The rear tires scrubbed when I hit a bump and the first maneuver that I tried to do on skinny fronts let me know right away that it wasn't something that I wanted to daily.

Now I only have to swap out my wheel bearing and give her a nice thorough cleaning and she should be happy.

I don't know how I never came across your build previously while searching for ideas...needless to say, I like your style. Very nice build.

Thanks I appreciate that. I've not been very active over the last year or so. Been busy with other stuff, but I still check in all the time.

More maintenance items

Had a pretty productive weekend maintaining the vehicles. Got my new wheel bearing installed along with an overdue washing. Also got the Venza washed, dealt with a wiring issue on the Mustang, changed brakes in Moms FJ, and installed a new alternator on my brothers Mustang. All in all got a lot of wrench and wash therapy in even with Saturday being a wash out. I find myself having to throw a lot more time and parts at the Mustang lately, because well... She's old and she's a Ford. But that's fine. My 4Runner rarely asks for anything. Even with over 200K miles.

New and old Hub/Bearing assemblies:

I do miss my long studs (that's what she said?) though. Just realized he actually offers extended studs as a service.

Installed:

I purchased the assembly from this thread from forum member nj636. Kevin was very easy to deal with, great price, parts seem to be of good quality, packaging was top notch and shipping was very fast.

Install was straight forward. Not really anything special to report. Didn't take very long.

Now it could just be paranoia, but it doesn't really feel the same after the install. Something just seems a little off, but I'm not sure what it could be. Could just be me. Car drives fine, but I feel like it was just a tad smoother before putting the new part on. Not really sure if there was anything wrong with my old part. Just replacing it for the sake of it since my other side was replaced about 4 years and 50K miles ago. Nothing jumping out at me regarding the install that could have gone wrong. Parts seem fine. Only thing I noticed was that the bearings on the new part wasn't showing the "Koyo" identification markings like the OEM stuff did and the pictures in the sale thread. Maybe they're only marked on one side? Not sure. Guess we'll see. Maybe after a few days I won't even notice it any more. Ah well.

You're telling me... Busy doesn't even begin to describe what I've been this year. Finally starting to wind down a little and able to breathe a little, but there is still plenty of work to be done for sure. I'm just not killing myself to get it done at the moment.

Plus with my in-laws move down, it's still a little haywire. They lived in that place for a long time and downsized a lot, not to mention buying a fixer upper, so there's a lot of work to be done on that front as well.

I definitely would like to get out and ride a little though. Do you guys still come to church in LW? If so, maybe we can get together for lunch or something afterward. You still need to get out and see the place, even though there's still a ton of work to do.

Yeah man. We get out around 12:30 ish then usually go to lunch. We should try to catch up for sure. Maybe this Sunday ? Send me a text and we can figure it out.

Hey buddy!! Good to hear from you. Great, let me talk it over with the boss and we'll try to figure something out. Maybe watch the game over at the house.

I like them. Don't know if you read the blurb I wrote from when I first got them, but they look just like the Method Standards, but they are cheaper and they are made in the USA while the Methods are made in China, which is pretty ironic. Also, they are made right down the road from me in the town that I currently live in, so I'm supporting a local business. No complaints at all really.

Yeah, I don't like their center caps at all. I really don't like any that stick out. Eventually I was planning on printing some flat caps if I ever could pull the trigger on a 3D printer. I've also entertained the idea of trying to source some off the shelf. For now, I just haven't been too worried about it. Just too much going on to fool with the truck really. I'll elaborate my next post.

Hope that helps. LMK if you have any more questions.

Quick Happy/Sad Update

Been a week of ups and down for me, just thought I'd log it here since this is really the only extent of "social media" that I actively participate in.

Yesterday, my Olde English Bulldog Baxter passed away. He'e the one most will recognize from my avatar. He lived a long full life. He almost made it to 14 years old, which in his years is around a hundred or so. He was the best dog I ever had and I will miss him greatly. It was definitely the hardest day of my life in recent memory at least.

But, with the bad come the good. My wife and I found out that we are expecting a second child a couple months back and this week we made it official that we will be welcoming a SON!!! We're truly excited.

Congrats on the new Baby. That is a joy that will put away most any pain.
