Supra725 Build Thread

Sorry to hear about your check light troubles. I had a transmission trouble code come on once in the middle of Kansas 300 miles from my destination. Ended up being low fluid. Hasnt come back since.

Get a diesel. Trust me. I've driven an IS F, merc diesels, bmw diesels. You'll never look back. My dad just got a 2014 328d M sport and it pulls like a rocketship and skill gets killer mpg. On a recent trip from Oklahoma to Colorado he averaged over 50 mpg highway. above 40 in the city too. Diesels are underrated by the EPA pretty much across the board

Tyler,

those diesel's are bamf.. so much more torque than our rigs lol.. when I drove my friend's e class diesel.. it was amazing.. so much new technology to play with..

on the cel.. I ordered an new filter, gasket maker and drain plug.. and when I was ordering the parts.. the service adviser at the dealer quoted me $530 with all the fluids or $360 if I bring my own..

I looked at this..

Dropping Pan And Flushing Transmission

it looks like a lot of work.. I don't know if i should attempt this or just give the dealer the $$ and let them deal with it.. consider the red toyota gasket sealant takes quite some time for it to cure.. 12-16 hours exactly..

since I'm going to be replacing the fluids.. so far, I have 1/4 of it is Mobil 1 but I would need close to 16 quarts according to the guide..

should I just go all out with Mobil 1 synthetic? or should I opt for Castrol? Amsoil or redline?

so tomorrow I have an potential job opening..

if things go well.. I'm thinking about a new car..

I had an chance to drive my friend's 2011 e class diesel and man that thing was fun to drive.. great torque.. tons on luxurious amenities.. it blows my runner out of the water.. is comfortable.. and has plenty of room..

or

should I go for an IS-F instead?

I can get an e class diesel for low 30's but with the IS-F, is mid 30's if not almost 40's.. and that's an car older than the IS-F.. the lexus I been looking is in the 09-10 range vs 11-12 range..

what should i do?

You could buy my Audi RS6.... :zoom::biggrin2:

Well Al, took me a few loads and unloads to go through your build here.

been doing a great job here so far, do expect to see more progress in the future.

Keep up the good work. Great 4r, wish I could buy a nice BMW, LEXUS.

thank you.

hopefully if i land an better job, i should be adding more to the rig..

same here.. to be honest, i would rather have an Lexus over the others.. the new GS's looks amazing..

and I'm going to be burn for this..

my buddy left me his LR3 for the week and man.. for mid 10's is a lot of car for the money.. not to speak, he gets better mpg than my rig.. he is pushing high 10's with an V8 and full time 4wd..

They are badass from my experience. Dare I say reliable in my experience too... :scared: They are very impressive off the pavement as well, especially with the rear locker. They are still not 3rd Gens though so I would not go as far as to compare them.

T4R,

is starting to grow on me.. the LR3 was amazing, it handles great.. not to speak that v8 has some power.. I took my girlfriend out to dinner with it last night and she really like it.. it has some much more luxury accommodation than my runner.. I have leather but the rover has the heated seats, nav and the Cooler build in..

When I was walking out from the car, an couple complemented how nice it was..

I don't know, I might be looking to get an rover..

J.B.

that's nice.. but man, that LR3 is hard to pass up..

for $15k's.. is alot of car.. why would I want to spend $20k on an corolla when I can have an LR3 lol..

Affording those cars isn't the issue, keeping them on the road and running is. Maintenance and repairs are what's going to kill you. They are inexpensive when used for a reason, they aren't worth much once the factory warranty is gone. (Costs of repairs are insane!) food for thought buddy.

Yeah.. the joys of owning an European car..

on the S-class, once the abc valve goes, is $2k for just the part.. and what's worse.. the newer m3 and c63's rotors are in the sub $1k per side..

I like my runner but man.. I want something luxury lol...

have any recommendation Shane?

x2

LR4's are the ones you want. There engine is a lot more reliable and well built then the LR3's. I don't remember the exact info but I believe the LR4's engine is Jag while the other one isn't or something like that.

The LR4 has many nice upgrades. The LR3 has a 4.4 and the LR4 is a 5.0, both of Jaguar design. I wouldn't call the LR3 a slouch considering the weight and size but the 5.0 is noticeably quicker. I haven't had many issues with the 4.4. Maintenance is expensive but if you are not expecting that when you buy it then you should look into another vehicle.

so for the past 2 weeks.. my rig has been popping CEL and the code is po770 and po770p..

from my research..

is the solenoid that's going out..

https://briglamoreaux.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/4runner-po770-error-code/

has anyone replaced it before?

also.. if it ain't the solenoid, it could be the torque converter..

what's the cost of an torque converter?

the fluid looks good, and it shifts fine.. but once i get up to 67 mph, is usually at 2k rpm.. but with the CEL.. is pushing about 2300-2400 rpm at the same speed.. could that be the solenoid not locking the tranny up? or could the converter be going?

sorry for no updates in an while.. been swapped with school + work..

over the weekend,

I did some maintenance on her..

-oil changed with Mobil 1 Extended performance and an wix filter (napa gold)
-lubed driveline
-changed air filter
-also an much needed bath.. cleaned her up..

and she finally turned over to 285k miles..

but yesterday though.. some dick head in an gs300 ran an stop sign and almost put my sliders to the test.. after it happened, I was about to talk some sense into this tool but before I could, he took off faster than an fat kid on sugar... needless to say, I wish I had my gopro on me to record this..

so this weekend the starter started to act up again..

and yesterday, I gave in and started to change it but didn't get an chance to finish it..

first off, the location of this thing was a pita and secondly.. the top bolt were a pita to get out of.. needless to say, it was a long day.. on top of that, I tried to look for an spare set of bolts for the old starter.. I ran into 5 different shops including fastenal and no one had it..

I called the dealer and they don't have it in stock either.. Needless to say, I was pissed..

but I told them to order me a set and also the starter contacts..

I took the bolts off of the starter and the contacts are shot.. I will take some pics of it tomorrow after I get out from class..

on a side note..

I been debating on rather getting a new hood with scoop or should I retrofit the factory fogs to hids..

any suggestions?

sorry for no updates the past month.. been crazy with finals + the lady and on top of all that.. the dreaded po770 kept coming back..

it got to the point where if I go over 60 mph.. the damn CEL pops on.. is so annoying.. but there be times where it would lock up just fine. .

I'm going to drop the pan later this week.. and replace all the solenoids for it.. along with switching out the filter and put new fluids on it... I'm so fed up with it.. it takes twice as long to get to places now and on top of that, my mpg is shot since the engine is higher than it should be..

Pics of T100 Transmission (A340F) Solenoid Replacement - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

but I have bump into this problem, I can't find the stupid lock up solenoid for the a340f.. I checked with the car quest and they can get the other 2 but not that lock up solenoid..

does anyone know where I can just buy the lockup solenoid?
