Surf BS Thread

Its been almost 3 months since my shoulder surgery, and Im about a month in on intensive rehab. My PT said I shouldnt be surfing yet... but I have worked myself back to my shortboard after a couple longboard sessions. Dont last long, and shoulder gets sore, but its worth it. Managed to sneak in a session all to myself at one of my favorite spots, feels so good to be back in the water, the best therapy

Good to hear/see!!! genmarks

Best therapy is hydrotherapy!!! I can relate to your situation...I had a closed separation 1 degree short of surgery and a couple ruptured ligaments. Shoulders suck to injure. GL on the recovery!!

I longboarded pain free for the 1st time this year. Hoping to be getting some time in the shade on a shorty by the spring!

What did you do to your shoulder in the first place?

new to the forums, recent trip to Nicaragua

Oh man. I spent about a month in Costa a while back and did a few overnight trips up to Nicaragua. That's a place that is definitely on my list to get back to.

Totally agree, thanks for the support!

Last year while in Washington I landed on my shoulder while snowboarding on a pretty big jump. I tore my AC (acromioclavicular) joint to a grade 3/5, meaning I tore all the ligaments holding down my collar bone to my shoulder. It was raised a coupe inches. And the end of the collar bone was slightly broken.
I had an arthroscopic surgery, they drilled through my collar bone, and there is now a wire synched down by two little brackets that holds my collar bone down, and they also put a cadaver hamstring ligament in place of my AC joint.
Before Surgery, you can see the end of the color bone sticking up:

After Surgery, You can see two brackets on top on the collar bone and lower in my coracoid process, the wire goes in between the two

Just got a little 2-3 foot slop in the Outer Banks. Camped last night in Rodanthe, woke up, drove further South to Buxton and had some fun. It was a South swell so at least the water felt pretty good

My friend did the exact same thing boarding on Mt Baker several years ago. We called his collar bone (because it was poking up out of his shoulder) his nubbin's.

Heck yeah guy! Looks fun

It's been raining a bit too much around here for me to get out in the water..
It's not so much the rain that keeps me out.. its what washes out of the streets and into the lineup that'll get ya. :repuke:

Hoping I can get out in the next couple weeks though. :yo: It's been too long since I've got to paddle around.

Anyone in here skate? My best friends family just build a new house and we get to use the attic over the garage for what we want. Trying to fit a mini bowl in there...

I grew up skateboarding, but only have a couple longboards now. I feel like at my age, it's a recipe for disaster. I have a good friend who I surf with who recently got back into skating. He literally just slammed in a bowl and now has to get shoulder surgery. But that hasn't deterred him. He also just bought a house that has a big barn in the back and he wants to build a mini bowl or pipe in it.

I guess I'm the only one that Snakeboarded then...

Still have my boards, break them out occasionally for some exercise..

No one knew what they were back when they were "out" here in the UK.. now people are totally confused.. especially with someone in their 30s riding one.

Grew up a skater...skated NJ/NY all the time. Since I have put a set up together here and there. Been itching to set up another. Probably going to pull the trigger sooner than later. It'll have two set ups...one with soft wheels(80-84) in a normal size to just go cruise around at high speeds(ceramic bearings) and still be able to ollie. Then another set with good bearings but hard wheels(98-102) for hitting the park/street. I'll mostly skate the bowl and mini but I do love hips!! SK8R for life...it's in my blood. Just don't heal as quick which sucks and keeps me from really getting after it.

Working close to Ocean City Maryland this morning....had to check it out....skunked [emoji38]

I've been riding a Walmart Quest longboard for a few years. Mainly just bombing a few hills in the neighborhood or hitting the local high school parking lot for some carving.
