Surf's Down

Time for another sad update. I was woken up to my wife screaming that the garage was on fire Friday morning, it was too late already, everything was lost, my Land Cruiser, another parts Land Cruiser that I had in the garage, my snowmobile, all my tools and stuff that was inside, even the wife's car that was in the driveway was lost. Thankfully the house has only minor damage and smoke damage, and everyone was OK.

We've been living in a hotel, pets are staying with friends for now, hoping to be back in the house for this weekend. This has been a pretty heavy blow for me, pretty well anything material that I cared about was in there, and it's just gone.

The vehicles have been towed away, and the garage leveled, it's just a burnt pad in the ground that's left now.

In some positive news, we found a vehicle for the wife, a minty '04 Lexus GX470, so I'll have a reason to hang out on here again. No pics of that yet.

I'll leave you with a pic.
:jaw drop::jaw drop::jaw drop::jaw drop::jaw drop::jaw drop:

Holy crap dude! Glad to hear everyone is ok though.

Man you just can't catch a break with these trucks!

Wow man, sorry to hear about that. The hits just keep coming, don't they?

I've always thought that a fire was just about the worst thing that could happen to one's home. Burglary, flood, you name it, will set you back and result in some loss, but a fire doesn't leave anything behind.

I sympathize with you, Ian. I'd be real bummed if my garage got cooked, and it's definitely a sad day to see that 80 series in ashes. Best of luck with the insurance and getting your things replaced.

Oh man, I can't even say how sorry I am. I am extremely happy that no one was hurt. Things can be replaced. Although these things keep being very hard things to replace.

Sorry again.

Ah dude, I'm terribly sorry to hear this. Thankfully it was all material and you guys are ok; hopefully you'll get enough from insurance to replace it all... :-/

I am in total shock about all of your stuff Ian.
I am happy everyone is okay.
I would slowly torture that person that hit your Hilux. I would tie them up to my rear bumper and drag them down the damn street.

It is good that the fire did not spread to the entire house and everything lost can be repaired. Good luck bud.

Oh my..I'm out of words to say for the LC and the rest of the things that you've lost this time man. I'm really just happy to hear that no one was hurt from all that chaos.

I wish you and your family for the best..and so what are you getting for your next rig might I ask?

That really sucks man. I 'm glad the fam/pets and house are okay. I know you're still mourning the loss but I bet within a few years you'll have a bigger garage, more tools and some kind of cool Yota in it!

Glad you and your family are okay. I hate to sound repetitive here, but I'm happy it was just material things that were lost and not a life.

dude this is bull chit! man id say sorry, or that sucks/blows ect... but yeah no words can express how sad i feel for you and your family(especially given the recent past events of the year for you), and how i feel is nothing compared to how you must feel... im sure your just beside yourself with devastation and heart ache and depression, i know i would be... if there is anything we can do either individualy or as a group please let us know. im sure i can speak for us all when i say we would love to help out anyway we can and if we can...

on a side note i was also just about to tell you that i wanted those IPF lights(i just got a new full time job), but i guess thats not gonna happen...
-you need to buy a lottery ticket my friend

Wow Ian... I am going to echo everyone's statements above. I'm ecstatic that no physical harm came to you and your family but I know that the lost Cruisers would be at the forefront of my mind. Sorry to hear man, when it rains it pours, it seems.

I don't want to jump the gun regarding what happens in the future but - if you need a place to stay (Lethbridge or Nelson) or need a hand with anything regarding importation of another Cruiser :eyebrows: in the future, just let me know. I'm sure myself and a ton of the CT4WD members will say the same, we're here to help my friend!

Hope it all goes as smooth as possible. Best of luck Ian!

I started reading the post about getting side swiped and left for dead. I just jumped to the last page hoping to read some good news about catching the guy who hit you and I'm totally floored.

The hit and run is HORRIBLE but the garage burning down is just... wow.

I'm sorry man.

At least you could think of it as you've dodged a few bullets and are walking away. Very glad everyone is alright.

But that must really take the wind out of your sails, I feel sick for you, but happy your family is alright.

I have no words to express how sorry I am, Ian. Like theizzardking said, fire is one of the worst things, it's just devastating what fire can do and the effect it leaves, both in it's aftermath and in one's mind. I can't even begin to imagine what it must've been like to watch your garage burn, and your things... I would be very devastated. I am so very thankful that no one was hurt and that your house is mostly okay.

I saw this thread at the beginning when you first wrote it and that was terrible enough... Then you got this awesome LC and it made for a worthy replacement for your solid Surf...and now it's gone too. I was so shocked to read about the fire and the devastation.

I echo what others have said, please let me/us know if there is anything we can do for you and your wife. We're a community here.

Again, I'm so sorry. Best wishes.

Real sorry to hear that man. I was looking forward to sharing some good news with you about my rebuild but that's nothing at this point. Wish you and the wife a full recovery from this disaster.

Again, thanks for the kind words everyone, it really does keep me going right now.

And like many of the others have said, don't hesitate to ask for help. Not sure what I can do from Seattle, but if there's something, I'm down. Maybe once things settle down a bit, get a list together of some of the little things you lost. I know if I've got some of the stuff on the list, I'll send it to you.

I wish you luck in getting restablished. Your threads were always interesting and I enjoyed reading them so dont take too long getting started on another. Was anyone able to determine a cause of ignition?
