Suspension advise: eliminate panhard bar

hello guys, so im just here looking at my truck, and looking at the mashed gas tank, and thinking it would be so much better if my truck did not have a panhard bar, the pan hard bar in our truck will alwasy pull the axle to one side when flexing thus creat gas tank rubbing the drive shaft problem and link binding problem. i understand with our "fake" 4 link that i need the panhard bar to keep the axle center, but what would i need to do to eliminate the track bar? relocate link mounts? i can make different length links no problem i just have no idea where i would put them.

To make it true 4-link, you'd have to move 2 of the mounts to the center of the axle, and at the same time make new longer links.

You could also do a watts linkage.

Both would be a big fab project.

i think and triangular 4 link would be more doable, i just have to figure out the configuration. so longer lower links and top link to the center of the axle?

only problem is there are limited amount of room in a 4runner to do any suspension fab work .

That is very dependent on your willingness to cut up something else. No I am not saying that I am willing to cut up my truck either, because I am not. You should start by doing the math to get an idea of how long/ and what angle the links need to be and see what is actually in the way.

You cant do a triangulated 4 link on the rear without moving the gas tank out of the way. It's just impossible to get the link geometry correct without doing that.

Wouldnt the easiest thing be to just trim or bend the gas tank skid slightly? It only needs an inch of room, maybe less.

I moved the gas tank into the cargo area last year and gained a whole lot of ground clearance..destroyed my original tank so I put the new one out of harms way. I have the links made up for a triangulated set-up...soon to be done!!

Do an f150 tank swap then you have all the room you could want.

thats the one thing im not good at is math and geometry.

That's alot of trouble to overcome the small issues of running a panhard. Fab a drop link for it or make a tower to bring up the axle side a little. Heck maybe you could use an adjustable PHB to keep it off the tank.

i have a pan hard bar drop, but that's just a band aid fix for a flawed design.

Talk to Scotty from Addicted offroad, he did his with the F150 gas tank and he never mentioned not having a gas gauge, maybe you just splice in the Ford one.

He is also the person to ask about the geometry and where you need to move your links to.

He built the baddest 3rd gen on the planet... no comparison.
