Suspension install

Let me know what they quote you, i'm carious

Soooo....I ended up giving IWC Motorsports in San Bernardino a shot. They have great reviews. They quoted $239.99 for the Bilstein 6112 install and an alignment. Strapped for time, I took it in and explained the KDSS system. It didn't take them long to figure it out. Good guys, I'd go back if my 5160s ever get back in stock.

I definitely wanted to do it all myself, but it is what it is.

Hello everyone. Just started my account here on T4R. Purchased a 97 4Runner sr5 awhile back. I order the OME set up for 3inch lift as well as light racing UCA and I have no where to install. Is there any local mechanic near the Torrance area who can help me out. I live in a condo so don't have a garage and have basic tools but that's about it. Thanks guys.

I definitely appreciate the offer. I will take you up on that when my back-ordered stuff arrives. I drive through that area often.

If you weren't so far away I would definitely offer my garage. I do have the tools from my previous builds. I'm glad you found a good shop to do it for you.

I'm right smack in the middle of OC. There's a mechanic in Irvine I occasionally use and he's the one who told me he'd probably just leave it until it got worse. He's not the guy who installed my shocks and springs, though - I'm going to try calling him next to get another opinion.

FYI - Tustin Transmission quoted me $315 parts and labor to replace the entire CV axle assembly. They're only a few minutes from where I live. I'm going to bring my truck into them tomorrow for the fix. Once complete I should be good to go... thinking of signing up for the SoCal trail day.

EDIT: Job complete, final price was $325 w/ a coupon. Apparently these days they almost always replace the entire axle. The parts are inexpensive enough such that re-booting/re-greasing an existing CV is just too messy and labor-intensive to bother with. The new part may not be OEM but I don't ever plan to tackle the Rubicon trail with my truck so I think I'll be fine.

Hey guys, for anyone looking for a solid place with fair pricing, check out

Brake Services | La Puente, CA | Bear Frame & Wheel
E-ROCKER recommended this place to me to do alignment after the lift, they do manual alignment, no machines. I'm very happy.

I did ask for a quote out of curiosity and they quoted me $370 with alignment!
So $300 for the install, they charge 60-70 for alignment.

Family owned and nice folks. They are located in La puente.

Just thought I'd share.

Hmmm. I might give them a call and try and get in this weekend for a post-lift wheel alignment.

I took my 4runner to Firestone this morning and when my car was ready, they couldn't print out the alignment specs because the printer was not working. I asked if I could take a picture of the specs from the computer screen and it turns out they didn't record my "before" alignment specs, and the only "after" measurements they had were for caster (which was 3.0 and 2.9) and overall toe-in (.01) with no details about camber. I find it hard to believe that after replacing the upper control arms, and added coil-over's that every aspect of alignment was within factor specs except toe-in (which was the only thing they adjusted.)

I'm not in love with Firestone today.

Took Miah up on his offer the other day and we (mostly him) got the rears Bilsteins and Icon springs on. Thanks a ton man. If anyone has questions or needs a hand with something, I highly recommend you ask him, he is the man.

Re positioned the reservoirs to the rear and upside down to prevent the cable from getting snagged.

I have a similar dilemma and think I might need to get my lower ball joints replaced in addition to some other suspension work. Does anyone have a recommendation for a mechanic or even a decent dealership in the valley? I'm fine with driving if needed but would prefer to stay close naturally.

I'm new to 4Runners ('97 SR5 4x4) and have very minor mechanical experience or would try it myself. The LBJ's seem a little too critical to experiment with.

It was my pleasure man anytime, thank you for allowing me to wrench on my first 5th Gen. Glad I could help and glad you came wanting to learn and not just observe but you weren't quite expecting it to be such a hands on learning experience. Well neither did I until you said ..I wanna learn but also want to see what all is involved such as tools, effort, time, experience to take on a big job like this and how much is really skill rather than just effort? Just not comfortable mechanically when it comes to the under the hood and belly projects and repairs.
So for the next 4.5 hrs there you were turn for turn part for part after I did one side you did the other. now have more understanding what it takes physically and mentality or rather how much is skill compared to effort.

I noticed by the end you got comfortable being under your rig and being you were, figures we could knock out a few other things thgat I've been wanting to learn,,,,meaning to get done. Lol

Good day good times.
My garage is there whenever you need it.

figure I'd rather bring back an old thread, rather than start a new one...
looking to get an Icon Stage 2 installed/ XREAS removed. Anyone know of a good place with XREAS experience? Toytec recommended me to Yotamasters, any others?

No one wants to have a CV swap then clean and reboot party lol.

Removing the CV is easy, about 30 mins, there are videos on YouTube and DIY threads on this site.

Rebooting a CV-Properly is just a dirty dirty job. You need to clean out ALL the old grease by hand with towels and rags then apply new proper grease then reassemble.

A compromise would be to pull it yourself, order the parts from Camelback then take it to a shop to have it done.

You can remove the wheel, then the CV, then stuff a rag in the hole and leave it parked.

Next order the OEM CV Boot kit from Toyota (I'd do inner and outer) and take the CV, grease, misc parts, and boot kit to someone in OC who will do the grease work. Likely about $100 per CV.

Pick up the completed CV, take it home, reinstall on the truck.

Now you're good to go for the next 150K miles.

Even the guys who swap them out on the trail don't properly reboot them on the trail.

It's not hard swapping the CV boots. It's just a little messy and gotta have the right tools. Tool for the C clip, 36mm, 19mm, 17mm, 12mm, needle nose for the boot clamps, hammer, big screw driver to pry the axle out, it will leak the diff fluid so be prepare for that. I just did my second one last week after the lift put on. They both torn, It took me an hour to do it but again I have access to the lift and tools.

I bought the the OEM boots from purefjcruiser.

Love all the recommendations on thai thread!!!im also debating to lift my rig and if and when i do, at least i have an idea of the install.
