Suspension Maintenance

All,

I'm out of town on business for the next week and the Runner is at the mechanic. It's gtting ready for some desperately needed MOOG Ball Joints because of the 3" ICON Lift installed.

While it's there and I have a rental car, are there any other cheap/miscellaneous parts I should ship him from Rock Auto to have him install? I can't do UCA just yet as I they're way expensive and I still haven't found or heard of a reliable non-uniball that aren't $1000.

I was thinking of small things along the lines of greasable bushings or the little link arms I see people replacing. Still learning all the terminology

Thsnks again!

I cider suspension maintenance to be all bushingd. Google "energy suspension" they have a good kit. Then if you search for ebay uni all on this forum late in the discussion you will see a link for a suspension maintenance package posted by me. It inclue end links, tie rod ends, etc... that and lower ball joints. If you have all that Dane (about $400 n parts) your 4runner will be like a whole new vehicle.

I did all my parts with MOOG, upper ball joints, lower ball joints, tie rod ends. The rig drives like new. The tie rod ends made the most difference as far as steering wheel play.

When you mean "wheel play" are you referring to the extra "slack" you feel when turning. I've experienced this on my mother's older 4Runner with 225k miles. My truck hasn't done this if this is what you're referring too. I'll have to look online at Rock Auto or Amazon for a part number because there are several to choose from even after specifying my particular 4Runner. I do appreciate your input!

Yeah, believe it or not, new tie rod ends take some of that wander out the wheel. Once you put in tie rod ends and re set your toe, the wheel feels firm and steady once again putting confidence back in you hands. Less wondering and less wheel vibration like a shopping kart feel when you go over bumps. If you can put you rig on jack stands, grab a front tire from front to back and begin to work it left and right you should not feel alot of free mvement. With fresh tie rod ends, this feeling from left to right becomes just about gone and the wheel feels firmer. Bad ball joints will make the front end rattle and feel loose all over the place when going over bumps almost like a shopping kart because everything if out of tolerance. Try it, you wont be sorry. Good Luck.
