Suspension - Most Confortable Ride

Sorry if this thread seems beat to death, but Lift and suspension has a lot of details. I bought a 2008 SR5 stock with some decent options. It has 17" Dunlop Duratreks (sp?). While looking, I drove another 2008 that seemed to ride much more comfortable than the one I have. My 2008 only has 33,000 miles, so I am assuming the shocks are good. Looking for the most comfortable ride, I really don't do any off roading. I was reading some posts about confort shocks by OEM? Anyone have any experience with these and would this give me what I am looking for?

2nd question:
I would like to add a little lift to the rig for looks. I like the rake and would like to stay close to the stock rake with the lift. Everything seems to lift the front more than the rear. Almost like reversing the Toytek 2.5/1.5? Any options that would not affect my 1st priority of comfort?

3rd question:
Would the 1.5" wheel spacer have any affect on the ride by making the stance a little wider?

Was the other one you drive a sr5? If not, it probably had xreas which would explain thedifference. If it was, I'm not sure. How much lift do you want? a spacer lift won't change ride but will give you three lift you want. You can do shocks and lift coils which will improve ride and give you lift. How much are you willing to spend?

As for the wheel spacers, they shouldn't change the ride quality

Yes, the other vehicle I drove was also a SR5. I want to get by as reasonable as possible, so if these comfort shocks will do the trick, I'll for go any lift. I would also like to have a system that I could install myself. I can turn wrenches and have some mechancial experience. Not afraid to tear something apart. When I try to find these comfort shocks, I seem to only find Medium or heavy. I am not sure I am finding even what I seen in a thread. A newbie here with 4runners, but learning. To be more specific, I would hope to do this modification for around $600 or less. I will probably combine this change with new tires and was thinking of the Michelin MLX's. Again, I've seen these in post and reviewed on tire rack, but I need to take more notes to keep all the part #'s correct.

My .02 cents: Bilstein 5100's all around with the front at .85" and the Daystar 1.5" rear spacer. It will keep the rake you want plus a mild lift and the bilsteins ride almost better than my stock xreas did.

Bilsteins plus spacers shouldn't be more than $425. Some 265/70's would look good with a mild lift.

The comfort shocks I was reading about were Old Man Emu
N91SC front anmd N86C Rears.
I've also seen a whole lot written about the Blistein 5100's.
The mid lift sounds like what I am after, so the set-up you mention sounds like it has at least one other person in agreement. The price is right about where I want to be.
The 1.5" rear spacer is a top urethane spacer for lift?
I was thinking of the Michelin LTX MS/2 tires. They list 265/65-17 as my option. The 265/70-17 would be a slightly taller tire and not enough to have any rub issues? Thanks for your time Gentlemen. Best regards, Doug

With that budget, I'd say do the 5100s and see if you can find a set of OEM fj cruiser springs. It'll be a much better setup than stock and provide you with the lift you want if you use the spacer mentioned above. The install isn't bad, from the sound of it you should be able to handle it with ease. Good tire options will be 265/70/17 as mentioned, or a 255/75/17. I love the 255s, slightly taller and no noticeable loss in gas mileage for me.

I would do the FJ lift with the spacer. Best ride by far! and if you get the Overland warehouse rear shocks they work perfectly together! They were awesome, leveled it out and provided a smooth ride and good off road capabilities. I think I spent 600 total for all around.
