Suspension question

When I was doing my lift I was told by many people to set my Bilsteins at 0" with OME 886. Now I'm planning to throw some spacers on to get a 3" total lift and was wondering why exactly I can't set the Bilsteins up. I know it's got to do with the pressure it puts on the components and stuff.

You can set your Billsteins to 2.5. Doing that is much better than putting a spacer in there. Just make sure you get an alignment afterwards.

The valving on your Billsteins might not be ideal for your springs, but unless you're doing a lot of heavy off roading or high speed gravel roads, don't worry about it.

Thanks man you just saved me a lot of money buying new springs and crap. That makes sense. Yea I go fairly hard offroading but slow and until my UCA's bother me I won't get new ones. And my alignment is perfect right now so an inch wont hurt it too bad.

No, you're going to need another alignment after you change the height.

I don't mean to question you but here's the thread http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/209232-set-up-help-bumper-lift.html On like page two everyone was freaking out about me setting them up high.

Because the 886s should already give you 3" of lift with the V8 and no extra weight in the front and that's a lot of force on the 5100 perch if you start to preload it. I have the 5100 @ 0 and 885s in the front and it got me close to 3" in the front w/ the v6. They've settled down a tad and I've added weight in the form of skid plates and sliders.

Personally I wouldn't lift your adjuster with them springs. For 1, you loose your travel, butt mainly, your coils have a lift to them already. I don't think the billies will handle the strain of the coils and height adjusted above the 0 setting.

Besides, I would like to be there to watch you try to compress the spring and mount the struts to them if you move from the 0 setting. I used spring compressor to mount 885s on mine, had to leave the top bushing off and put the nut on to help compress them tighter. Then remove the nut and finish assemble with bushings.

Look at others on here that have had there billies w 885 or 886s, I would bet 99.99% of them are set on 0, theres a reason for this. And others have added tophat spacers to get that little extra lift.

1/4" tophat will net you 1/2" lift with what you have.

Do as you wish and let us know what you decided on. If you do raise the perch, report back in 6-12 months and let us know also.

Oh shit! I retract all my other posts! Whoops!!

Brain fart, forgot 886s give you 3". Definitely don't want higher perches with those!

No haha I never do anything immediately. Thanks guys for the double check. I'm just gonna stick with what I have and get 33s.
