Swap a 01 Tundra 4.7 V8 in a 96 4Runner??

My 96 3.4 4Runner had a head gasket go south. My plan was to fix the existing motor with new head gaskets, or plan B was to get a new motor. I understand the 00-04 Tundra motors can be swapped in but can a 4.7 V8 or am I asking for all kinds of problems? I found a low milage wrecked 01 Tundra but it says it has a 4.7. Should I just stay with a 3.4?
I don't want a major project just a good running 4Runner once again.

The 3.4 is a really decent motor. Especially if you're looking for something that doesn't cause you headaches.

Singtoe hasn't been the same since he dropped in a 4.7 in his 4runner, which is a good thing. I was hoping Doc may follow his lead, but alas, that doesn't look like that will happen.

Just make sure you wrenching acumen is quite high.

Definitely not gonna happen anytime soon. Unless I can find a screaming deal on a 4.7 truck that I can't walk away from.

There was an issue with early build 5VZ-FE headgaskets. There was a recall for those headgaskets from inception through early '97 build 5VZ-FE's.

For example, my 4Runner was built 7/21/97. I received the notice of a potential headgasket recall, with instructions to call with my VIN. It turned out my 4Runner was built late enough in '97, that it already had the redesigned headgaskets installed at the factory.
