Sweet King Kamper Off Road Trailer

I did my maiden voyage last week with my new King Kamper off road camping trailer. Here are some pics of the 5 day trip. The trailer was amazing as I drove it over roads my friends didn't want to drive without a trailer.

WOW! thats really cool. So that trailer comes apart and has the canvas for the tent all ready together? With a sink and stuff? thats pretty sweet setup, I've never seen a trailer like that. Can you show me a link for a website with info on that thing??

As you will see in the photos, you can just set up the trailer, or the trailer and a porch, or the whole shabang and add the walls all the way around. We were there for 5 days so it made sense to set up the whole "Moutain Chelet"

Those are sooo sweet. They have one of those at Slee Off Road in the showroom. Did it do as good off road as they say it will? Wish I had the $ for one. Very Nice!!!!

WOW! $19,450 not including the options!!!! or the price of a small sedan :biggrin2: HMMMMMMMM kamper- couple months a year, sedan- daily use/transport.....SEDAN! hehe

That's me being a penny pincher but I would get one in a heartbeat if I could, with all the traveling and outdoors! damn I want to retire!

Wow, that's more $ than I would have thought. More than my off-road model hard-sided Chalet A-frame camper. The King Kamper does look like it would pretty much go anywhere though.

Seeing those beautiful pcs makes me think two things:

1) Moving away from this snow-ridden NE Ohio weather

2) Retiring! (at least 14 more years after we get three kids through private school and college).

Yep, the snow plow looking thing in front is a stone gaurd to protect the front of the trailer.

I was impressed with both the on road and off road performance. It's larger than an adventure trailer so I wouldn't try taking it on the Rubicon but it has an identical wheel track as the 4Runner and is built like a tank. I would feel comfortable taking it on the majority of back roads. On this last trip, some of my friends didn't like driving up the road without a trailer. They were amazed that I was able to tow the Explorer up there with no problems. It floated across the sandy areas and never had any clearence problems in heavily rutted roads. The electric brakes worked well and helped a lot in the off road conditions. I have an Odessey inertial electric brake controller that seems to be a good match for this trailer.

I agree on the retirement dream. :biggrin2: I have 8 more years so I probably jumped the gun a bit. I plan to get out as often as possible now while I'm young enough to enjoy the back country.

PS. It is a little pricey but you get what you pay for, quality doesn't come cheap. I expect this will last me many, many years of off road adventuring. I was able to afford it because I quit smoking after being a heavy smoker for years. I used the $$ previously spent on tobacco to pay for this as a reward for not ever smoking again. :bigok:

Ah, rock guard, makes sense. As to the off-road ability, there is definitely a distinction given its size that it is not for rock crawling but adventuring.

More and more when I look at campers, roof top tents, trailers, off road suspension styles, etc. it is important to be clear about what you want your vehicle to do; rock crawl or adventuring.

Something as simple as size of tires - rock crawlers typically want bigger, wider tires but adventurers often stay near stock or even go taller with less width.

This camper sure looks set up to do some serious adventuring, sweet.

Off-road camper trailers are very popular in Australia and there are dozens of manufactures there with some pretty awesome stuff. Alot of people are suprised at just how far you can get off road with these things.

Well said on the rock crawling vs adventuring. I agree, this one is definitley designed for the general expedition adventuring type trips and not the specialized rock crawling trailers.

For me this is a great fit. Thanks for your contribution to the thread.

I know, I saw that, sucks. Looks like you have made good progress though. Just take it one step at a time. Go for fixing current challenges, then moding rig, then add on toys if you want.

Yeah, no bigge. Just bummed that I did it workin instead of wheelin!! Could have been a much better story if I was on trail !!

But Im lucky that I did close to the street otherwise it would have been alot more difficult to get it home. When all is said and done, it will be better than before and I can get back on path as far as mods are concerned. I just love my rig, I stare at it constantly. Anybody know what I mean!? Im single, no kids, my rig is my baby!!
