Swing out Spare tire Rack

Hey does anybody know if you can mount the swing out style spare tire rack on a second gen that did not come with one from the factory. The Rack will fit but I am not sure if there is any support for it underneath the body metal. I'm just wondering if anyone has done anything like this before, Thanks.

I'm not familiar w/the mounting on a Toy, but typically the "factory" ones have reinforcement inside to handle the weight and stress.

right, but I am wondering if the supports are there on mine, since it didn't originally have that type of rack.

I wanted to do the same thing (I'll probably fabricate something like the one that comes with Surfs (right hand 4Runner). I'm pretty sure to handle that kind of stress there has to be some support inside. I will let you know if I find out anything else.

I actually just went ahead and did it, there is no support behind the metal, i just used over sized bolts with large (2in) fender washers on the back sides. it works fine, Very Sturdy. I think the metal is stronger there on the corner because of the bends in it. Let me know if you want some pictures or something... Took me almost 2 days to do, Had to take out some of the rear interior stuff.
