Swingout Tire carrier retro fit- ?

. My underneath spare caught on fire so to alleviate that danger I decided to retro fit a swing out carrier on my 91 4runner. I found a full tailgate and swing out carrier on Craigslist for $100. I am in the process of installing in the internal mounting bracket. The top part of the bracket, after a little sub frame cutting/butchering went in fine. The problem is the bottom half. My question is can I cut the dark gray hump in the second picture. It is in the way of sliding the bottom bracket into place. The sub frame I was able hack away but the darker gray will need a sawz all. out: is it safe to cut?

First, we need the story on the tire fire.

Make sure you either back up they body steel with some large metal plates or at least some large washers so the bolts don't pull thru the body.

Sweet!
I was torn between a 90-91 &92-95 when i was looking for a second gen. Wanted the tire carrier and the newer headlights. So... Did the 94 front end swap on my 90. Best of both worlds haha

Was this from the donor truck or yours? Did you have to cut that much to get the bracket in there?

rear quater panel

this is from my existing quarter panel. It does need to be cut in order to slide the bottom bracket into posistion. There is an addiontional layer of steel that needs to be notched out. the darker gray. :lookout:
