Switch to 100% gas worth it for the winter?

Just like many others have noticed recently- I too realized that my MPGs have been down over the last couple of weeks! More than likely it is the crappy winter gas because my driving habits have not changed- I do not sit and wait for the truck to warm up or anything like that!

So my question is- are any of you (those of you who have the option available) thinking of switching to 100% gas for the winter? I have a gas station close to where I live but 100% gas is definitely more expensive than the crap blend. The regular where I live is about 3.45 and 100% gas is at least 10-20 cents per gallon more expensive!

What are you guys planning on doing?

It would be interesting to do the math

It would be interesting to fill up with 100% gas and run a couple tankfuls to compare the addtional cost and additional mpg vs. the crappy "winter" blend, which is just stuffing as much (we-the-people) subsidized ethanol into every gallon of petrol. I would really like to see how much MORE than the 10% ethanol they are putting into it. I know the last two winters at least, it has been NOTICEABLE.
 
ROCK2me- definitely agree..would be an interesting experiment to try..depending upon the input that I get on here..I might try it out
 
Around $.10 to $.15 more.

Actually noticed a difference around the 3rd tank. Mostly city driving with lots of stop and go and i have been getting 19.9 mpg where before it was showing 17.2

I have been resetting after every fill up.

Can anyone tell me/us what brands even offer ethanol free gas? I'm on Long Island and would go out of my way to buy it....
 
Without doing any actual scientific testing, from my records, I get 10% better mileage with what I presume to be ethanol free gas. I would pay $.25 + more per gallon if I could find ethanol free here in the Winter but I can't get it even to compare with.

I've got q few ethanol free stations close to work. I'll give it a try. I might have to cheat during holiday travel though.
 
It would be great if some of you guys who have the access and want to try it- would actually try it out- I will definitely do so- that way we can get some concrete evidence that it does improve the MPGs- good info to have for the many winters to come.
 
You guys are comparing 3 things:
1. Ethanol free gasoline
2. Standard "up to 10%" ethanol gasoline
3. "Winter" blend gasoline

In my past experiences the ethanol free vs. up to 10% have been about even price wise over several months. Yes, I got about 10% better milage but spent about 7% more. Sounds economical until factoring in the extra milage spent on going to that station! To me it was about break even in my mind. I cannot comment on the "winter" blend as I do not have enough information on the exact composition, where it is used, when it is introduced to a specific station or anything else. What I do though is look at it this way:
Take an AVERAGE of your milage over a six month period every month. Then compare it to your previous six month's usage. Easy to do if you keep good records and this way the good and bad get averaged and you can compare to see if you are improving or declining based on your average. Right now after 9 months and 20K miles I have a 6 month average of 19.9 mpg regardless of city, highway, winter or summer.
 
Feel lucky you can buy ethanol free gas, here in MN we only can buy E10. Yes there is a MPG difference with ethanol free gas, if I had an option I'd buy the good stuff with no ethanol.
