Switch to use brake lights

I hate tailgaters. I often tap my breaks to let them know I see them. Sometimes I wish I can turn my break lights on without pressing the pedal.

How would I go about doing this? Is it even possible to wire a switch to allow brake lights to illuminate at my discretion, yet still not interfere with its original functionality?

U can tap the brake light switch, i think u run a ground wire, im not sure tho, but check the polarity.

haha I've often had this thought. Mainly for other reasons though, reasons that are obviously illegal. Anyways, I think that it is very do able to tap into the brake light circuit with a switch BUT if in the event someone does rear end you and they somehow find out you do have a switch you will find yourself in a real court.

I once followed an old VW Bug and nearly rear-ended him because he never "braked." Turns out he had a switch that turned his lights off at will. I know there are illegal reasons to do it but mine is purely for turning on the brake lights at will, not off. Sure, I'd be in big trouble if it was the other way around (I don't know if it's illegal). Anyway, how would I go about doing this? I don't even know where the brake light wiring is.

I was reading that there are two wires that allow the brakes to function, and a metal "bar" connects between them, thus resulting in the red lights. There has to be a way to connect these without cutting wires or affecting the actual functionality that it was designed for.

When it comes down to it, if there is a switch on your brake light circuit you're guilty just for having it. No matter what your intentions are. I would say you're better off just leaving it alone and tapping your brakes like normal. If you really want to make someone who's tailing you think twice, install a bright ass light that will blind them. They'll back off for sure.
