Switched to a JBL 6 Disc Changer

I have 2005 V8 4X4 Sport Edition, I have less than 900miles on my 4runner, basically brad new and I have the JBL single CD HU, I am located in Ann Arbor MI, but what I could do is, send you mine first, and once you receive my radio bezel, you ship yours to me. There is no diff in 04 and 05.

there is a slight difference between the 04 and 05 in the ac control unit. the 05 has an airbag indicator and the 04 does not. so according the the forum, we can separate the ac control unit bezel from the readout display. so we can swap 2 items, the ac control unit bezel and the center panel bezel. tell me what you think. btw are you installing the 6cd changer radio?

After you change the stereo can you still use the controls (volume/mode) on the steering wheel?

yup, everything works as before. you can also change between CDs 1 - 6 from the steering wheel controls.

OK, so I'm looking to do the same thing (or similar) to what most of you are doing. I currently have the JBL 6-disc headunit, going to purchase an alpine double-din headunit so, ideally, I'll need to swap out my bezel trim pieces. Obviously, there is always the option of swapping with another member (preferable). But has anyone actually gotten a price quote on these two pieces?!? Someone said it would save about $1000, there is no way those two plastic trim pieces could cost that much money, no way. Not even from a dealership. Anyone know how much they cost to purchase directly...?!

Thanks Sharp - yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they charged an arm and a leg for them, I was just wondering if anyone had actually *got* a price quote. Maybe it's not nearly as bad as we think! I'm gonna call with the part numbers and post a reply. I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Yeah no prob. I remember that Prozac said he had called Carson's toyota for a price quote and it was pretty expensive. When he found out I wanted a 6 disc JBL system, we swapped units since he needed my bezel for his Navigation install.
FYI, I have a 05 Limited with JBL and I'm going to do the swap so I can install a double DIN unit.
I did some research, for the A/C control assembly, you want type A, which means w/o the JBL system. For my 2005 Limited, the part number was 55900-35490. The part numbers listed in the previous post are for the 2004 model. This is only for the A/C control assembly, for the center panel, the part number is the same.

Man dudes, I am so confused. I just bought a 2003 4Runner and it does NOT have the JBL single or 6 disc, it just has the standard single disc. Now, I have gots to have my mp3s so I am contemplating buying a JBL 6 disc, mp3/wma from a 2006 4Runner and I am trying to determine if its compatible. If its not compatible, what do I need to do to make it so?

It won't be compatible. Get a SCION headunit instead as they play MP3s and are plug and play with your system.

Do you know why it won't be compatible? What is the major problem? I saw that someone had no problem putting the 2006 unit into a 2005.

The JBL head unit uses different plugs than a non-JBL head unit. The SCION head unit uses the same plugs as a non-jbl head unit. The plugs are different because JBL units use an externally mounted AMP while non-jbl units have the AMP built in.
UoD replaced a 2005 JBL headunit with a 2006 JBL unit, I know of that. Never heard of anyone replacing a non-JBL unit with a JBL.

Im planning on doing 05 JBL w/ 6 disc changer to 07 JBL w/ mp3 and changer do i need a new bezel?

As long as your staying from 6disc to 6disc, you should be ok.
