Switching from 03 to 06 headlights and had a question about the wiring

Depending on if you buy used headlights

I purchased new
Depo headlights-$203 (both of them)
OEM Bumper Filler panels-$60 (both of them, painted)
Wiring Harness-$40-50 (both of them)

In total you are looking at $300-350.

However, the 06-09 headlights will not compare or put a scratch against a proper retrofit. That's why I went a bit further and retrofitted the new headlights for performance and safety.

Sam, you might want to try Touch Up Paint and Accessories | AutomotiveTouchup or Automotive Touch Up Paint from PaintScratch - Order Pro Grade Paint. I have never used them but heard some people have had good luck with them

Sherwyn Williams and other places can mix paint and put it in a spray can.

I was able to find plugs at my local pepboys to hold the turn signal bulb that fit right into the 4runner lights, then just spliced the wires together from the factory turn signal wiring. I believe it was made for a 2006 F150 or something. Lost the box though, so not 100% sure. I think I paid about $6 each, and they were out with the rest of the turn signal bulbs.

I'd like to know what it was from because no way am I paying $50ish for the two sets of wires. How did you match it up, were the headlights out of the vehicle?

I have been trying to find one in a junkyard and get the two sockets on each side cut with some wire. Did you find a socket for the little bulb?

1156 for bulb socket and single filament bulb.(signal only, or wire it up as drl only.)
1157 for bulb socket and dual filament bulb.(drl and signal)

I just went into Pepboys I think, and found a bulb listed for the 2006 4runner blinker, and there was a holder for the bulb right next to the actual bulb. Decided to risk it and it just fit. Had to grind a tab on the holder to fit perfectly though. The bulb holder had three wires coming off the back, and I just spliced and soldered them to the factory wiring for the blinkers.

Good to know, I figured other vehicles sockets wouldn't fit. My blinker is in the bumper, but I may use it for DRL. THANKS for the info guys!

Another little thing i am doing is using chrome/amber bulbs so there is no yolk look in the light. They flash amber like normal but when they are off it just looks clear in the housing. You can check out this thread to see what i am talking about.

I was at the junkyard today and got some 1157 sockets out of a Honda Accord for free.99. Years 98-2002 and possibly others should work. These are the three wire sockets. They are in the front turn signal and front side marker.

What are you guys that have turn signals in the bumper putting in here? I don't need turn signals. Would I be better off with the two wire sockets or does it matter? I'll probably put orange ones in the small marker lights like on the 04. I guess I could have dual turn signals.

What I need now are the small ones that go to the little bulb, it's different than the 04. Help.

ill be doing this swap here in a few minutes. I got the toyota bulbs/sockets and will be cutting and soldering them up to the pre-existing wiring and i should be good to go. Ill post pics when im done.

corner marker lights in 03-05 are 194 bulbs.

Got mine done today. I still need to do a little cleaning up of the wiring but it will do for today. With the extra harness i was able to wire the turn signals in the lights to the turn signals in the bumper. Sorry for the terrible pics I will get some better ones tomorrow after she is cleaned up.

probably pretty good. I dont have DRLs so mines just a blinker. Just the 194 marker bulb for parking lights.

im so stoked for the blinker in the headlight. I left my LED strips just to be more light as well. Cant decide if i want to leave them or remove them. The blinker bulb is bright enough as it is.
