Symptoms of a timing belt problem???

If your timing is off enough it could cause the truck to not start. But lots of things could cause the truck to not start.

22RE or 3VZE? What's it doing? I assume it cranks but won't fire? Did it run rough before it stopped starting, or is did this start out of the blue? You can easily test for a fuel problem by spraying starter fluid into the intake plenum and seeing if that makes it run for a moment. You can test for spark by pulling a plug and holding it near the the block to see if it arcs while somebody else cranks the engine. If starter fluid doesn't help and you've got good spark, it's possible it could be a timing problem.
 
22RE and it would start for just a second then it would completely off. and sometimes it won't click over. I have gas its at half a tank.

Sometimes it starts and dies, and sometimes it just won't fire? That sounds like a fuel problem. You may have gas in the tank, but that doesn't mean it's making it into the cylinders. Fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors... you can borrow a fuel pressure tester from most auto parts stores. That'd be the first thing I'd check.
 
The only thing I can think of is that we haven't checked the fuel injectors. We have replaced everything that deals with the fuel parts. but thank you for the advice I'll work on it tomorrow when I get a chance off.

Check the FSM! It could be a multitude of things, but there are troubleshooting guides in there to help you.

its a PITA to hook up on the 22RE.
if i have to do it again, im buying the connectors, and leaving them INLINE.



if it starts, and runs remotely smoothly, i doubt its a timing chain issue.

it COULD be a timing problem. altho, its pretty hard to time an engine that doesnt stay running. but you can get it close by hitting TDC, and lining up the dizzy.


did it just die one day randomly? or was this after some work was done?
or? backstory?

Ok so I didn't have my truck for about a month already and my bf just fixed the gas leak that I had well. I drove from work to his house and I drove fine. I went to a car wash and after that I noticed that it starte to drive ****ty like if I was pressing the gas pedal enough. Then when I got to his house it completely shut off on me. Then when I cranked it it would turn over. And it wouldn't start.

I hope you didn't clean the engine bay while you were there......
