Synthetic Differential fluid ?

Sorry to ask just a newb question. Do 2wd only have a rear diff no TC nor front diff correct? I've been swamped, now that's warming up, to even get a chance and look underneath.

At least you used the search function. Pretty good for a newb.

You are correct, just the rear diff.
If it is a standard tranny it will have gear oil but I don't know the weight. If automatic tranny you only have a rear diff using gear oil.

If you change it yourself, always remove the FILL plug first. Sometimes the plugs don't want to come out. You don't want to drain the diff and not be able to refill it.

I just did mine, 75w90 Castrol synthetic in all three even though the rear called for 80w90(they don't make that weight in synthetic). I would advise against doing 75w140, as it is more expensive and seems a little unnecessary for most climates. After about 200 miles, i've noticed better performance in the rear as it was binding and causing a vibration in ~30 mph turns, and now it isn't. I do recommend removing the skids, spare tire, and running boards to make it much easier, and definately use a pump.

Anyone have the link to the differential fluid change write up? I know it's not hard to do but it would be nice to have fluid quantities, torque specs and crusher washer part numbers all in one place but I can't seem to find it in the stickies.

This is the easiest one that i found simply because of pictures. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/maint...ntial-transfer-case-fluids-pics-included.html if you go to page 2 or 3 i cant remember it'll tell you the part numbers of which of the crush washers.
