Did you study 87 89 91 and 93? I am more interested in the levels of ethanol in the grades. Does 93 have less ethanol content than 87 etc...?

didnt study grades, just the fuel in general. from my understanding, as the below notes, ethanol is used as a octane booster. ethanol replaced MTBE for this purpose. not exactly sure, but it may reason that there is actually an INCREASE in ethanol in higher grades, if in fact the ethanol % increases octane rating.

Since in many areas of the country (like NH and MA) and Oxygenate (Ethanol) is MANDATED by the Feds. So I know for a FACT that in states that have mandated oxygenates additives - ALL grades will have a minimum of 10% Ethanol. MTBE use to be the oxygenate of choice...but that stuff is EXTREMELY nasty for the environment.

Can't put E in pipelines so it comes to the tank truck terminal by rail or truck. Bad for pipelines but ok for your car ? Yep, picks up protective crap off the wall of the pipe and destroys pipeline valve seals.

cant transport in pipelines because it is hygroscopic (ability of a substance to attract and hold water molecules from the surrounding environment).

I'm still trying to figure out how the country is going to pay for an increase in mandated ethanol since it is already subsidized. It costs much more to produce than gas. those of you getting better gas mileage on premium vs regular gas must not have ethanol in the premium or else you are snorting fairy dust because you will not get better gas mileage. . . . . thats not how octane works. I wish I could run ethanol free premium, but its illegal here in MN except for small engines and collector cars. Not sure the mileage improvement could make up for the cost increase though.

My guess is we have ethanol free premium in my area. Right now, and this could and probably will change, I am paying the same overall cost per mile for premium gas because of the increased fuel economy. But if/when they introduce ethanol and lower my mpg's it will no longer be worth it for me.

Yup, same in VT, 10% E everywhere you go, no matter what grade.

Yup, nothing even remotely close to me. Plus it seems like a lot of places that have it are rinky-dink unbranded places so who knows how old their pumps are, and where they get their fuel from.

Getting back on topic to Synthetic oil... I go back and forth depending on if the Synth is on sale or whatever. There's no harm in going back and forth. I don't notices any difference whatsoever though.
